Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method and system for monitoring a location via a called telephony communication device is disclosed. The method at the called telephony communication device includes receiving a request from a calling telephony communication device. Further, the method includes determining whether the received request is for monitoring the location. The method further includes automatically transmitting audio/video data captured via the called telephony communication device to the calling telephony communication device when the received request is determined to be one for monitoring the location.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for monitoring a location via a video capable communication device, comprising: receiving, at the video capable communication device, a request from a telephony communication device regarding a first location at which the video capable communication device is located, wherein the video capable communication device is located at the first location, wherein receiving the request from the telephony communication device comprises receiving a request via an independent intermediate communication device over a wireless communication network, and wherein the independent intermediate communication device is configured to communicatively couple to the telephony communication device via a wide area wireless communication network and communicatively couple to the video capable communication device via a local area wireless communication network or a short range wireless communication network; determining, by the video capable communication device, whether the received request is for the video capable communication device to monitor the first location; capturing video data of the first location via the video capable communication device in response to determining that the received request is a request to monitor the first location; and transmitting the captured video data of the first location from the video capable communication device to the telephony communication device via the independent intermediate communication device in response to determining that the received request is a request to monitor the first location. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the request from the telephony communication device comprises receiving a request from a telephony communication device located at a second location. 3. The method of claim 1 , comprising authenticating the telephony communication device. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein authenticating the telephony communication device comprises determining an identity of the telephony communication device, receiving a password entered at the telephony communication device, receiving a biometric parameter sampled at the telephony communication device, or any combination thereof. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the video capable communication device comprises a camera. 6. The method of claim 1 , comprising capturing audio data of the first location substantially concurrently with the capturing of the video data. 7. The method of claim 1 , comprising capturing a temperature of the first location, a humidity of the first location, a pressure of the first location, a motion at the first location, or any combination thereof. 8. The method of claim 1 , comprising not providing an audible alert signal in response to the received request from the telephony communication device. 9. A video capable communication device configured to monitor one or more locations, comprising: a receiver configured to receive a request from a telephony communication device via an independent intermediate communication device regarding a first location at which the video capable communication device is placed, wherein the independent intermediate communication device is configured to communicatively couple to the telephony communication device via a wide area wireless communication network and communicatively couple to the video capable communication device via a local area wireless communication network or a short range wireless communication network; a processor configured determine whether the received request is for the video capable communication device to monitor the first location; a camera configured to capture video data of the first location in response to the processor determining that the received request is a request for the video capable communication device to monitor the first location; and a transmitter configured to transmit the captured video data in response to the processor determining that the received request is a request for the video capable communication device to monitor the first location. 10. The video capable communication device of claim 9 , comprising a microphone configured to capture audio data of the first location, and wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the captured audio data along with the captured video data. 11. The video capable communication device of claim 9 , wherein the telephony communication device is located at a second location, and wherein the second location is distant from the first location. 12. The video capable communication device of claim 9 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the captured video data from the video capable communication device to the independent intermediate communication device. 13. The video capable communication device of claim 12 , wherein the independent intermediate communication device is configured to transmit the captured video data to the telephony communication device via the wide area wireless communication network. 14. A wireless sensing device, comprising: a receiver configured to receive a request from a wireless communication device via an independent intermediate communication device regarding a location at which the wireless sensing device is located, wherein the independent intermediate communication device is configured to communicatively couple to the wireless communication device via a wide area wireless communication network and communicatively couple to the wireless sensing device via a local area wireless communication network or a short range wireless communication network; a processor configured to determine whether the received request is for the wireless sensing device to monitor physical parameters of the location; a telemetry sensor configured to detect the physical parameters of the location in response to the processor determining that the received request is a request for the wireless sensing device to monitor the physical parameters of the location; and a transmitter configured to transmit the physical parameters from the wireless sensing device to the independent intermediate communication device in response to the processor determining that the received request is a request for the wireless sensing device to monitor the physical parameters of the location. 15. The wireless sensing device of claim 14 , wherein the telemetry sensor comprises a motion detection sensor, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a pressure sensor, or any combination thereof. 16. The wireless sensing device of claim 14 , comprising an audio sensor configured to capture audio data of the location, an image sensor configured to capture image data of the location, or a combination thereof. 17. The wireless sensing device of claim 14 , wherein the wireless sensing device is configured to authenticate the wireless communication device prior to transmitting the physical parameters to the wireless communication device. 18. The wireless sensing device of claim 17 , wherein the wireless sensing device is configured to authenticate the wireless communication device based at least in part on location data of the wireless communication device, an identification data of the wireless communication device, a received authorization code, a received password, biometric data associated a user of the wireless communication device, or any combination thereof.
