Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a system configuration and an apparatus for preventing the infringement of user privacy, and for collecting and analyzing information regardless of the service feature and type, while a system providing a context aware service collects and analyzes user information. The present invention discloses a method of configuring and using a context analyzer and a device profile database in order for the system providing the context aware service to collect and analyze information regardless of the service feature and type.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for managing a context in a communication system, the method comprising: detecting a packet transmitted between a device, to which a new temporary identifier is assigned, and a server; transmitting, to a device profile database, a request message for requesting information for an old temporary identifier of the device; receiving, from the device profile database, a response message including the information for the old temporary identifier of the device; and managing a context of the device by mapping the old temporary identifier of the device to the new temporary identifier of the device without a user identification of the device, the context comprising at least one of user activity information and user service usage information. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the old temporary identifier information comprises information for an old IP address or an old alias used by the device before a new IP address or a new alias is assigned. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the response message excludes, if the device connects to the system initially, the information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the response message comprises, if the device has connected to the system previously, the information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the managing of the context comprises updating the old IP address or the old alias of the device to the new IP address or the new alias assigned currently for the device. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the user activity information and the user service usage information includes at least one of purchase history, user location, preference, click history, and social network server (SNS) information. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the new temporary identifier of the device is identified based on the detected packet. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the context is used for providing the device with a context aware service predicting a user's interest based on a service usage history. 9. An apparatus for managing context in a communication system, the apparatus comprising: an interface unit for performing wired or wireless communication with at least one node; a storage unit for storing context information associated with temporary identifier information; and a control unit configured to control to: detect a packet transmitted between a device, to which a new temporary identifier is assigned, and a server, transmit, to a device profile database, a request message for requesting information for an old temporary identifier of the device, receive, from the device profile database, a response message including the information for the old temporary identifier of the device, and manage a context of the device by mapping the old temporary identifier of the device to new temporary identifier of the device without a user identification of the device, the context comprising at least one of user activity information and user service usage information. 10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the old temporary identifier information comprises information for an old IP address or an old alias used by the device before current a new IP address or a new alias is assigned. 11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the response message excludes, if the device connects to the system initially, the information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the response message comprises, if the device has connected to the system previously, the information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the control unit is further configured to update the old IP address or the old alias of the device to the new IP address or the new alias assigned currently for the device. 14. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the at least one of the user activity information and the user service usage information includes at least one of purchase history, user location, preference, click history, and social network server (SNS) information. 15. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the control unit is further configured to identify the new temporary identifier of the device based on the detected packet. 16. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the context is used for providing the device with a context aware service predicting a user's interest based on a service usage history. 17. A method for managing context in a communication system, the method comprising: receiving, from a context analyzer, a request message requesting information for an old temporary identifier of a device, the device to which a new temporary identifier is assigned; and transmitting, to the context analyzer, a response message including the information for the old temporary identifier, wherein the context of the device is managed by mapping the old temporary identifier of the device to the new temporary identifier of the device without a user identification of the device, and wherein the context of the device comprises at least one of the user activity information and the user service usage information. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the old temporary identifier information includes information for an old IP address or an old alias used by the device before a new IP address or a new alias is assigned. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the response message excludes, if the device connects to the system initially, the information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 20. The method of claim 18 , wherein the response message comprises, if the device has connected to the system previously, information for the old IP address or the old alias used by the device. 21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the old IP address or the old alias of the device is updated to the new IP address or the new alias assigned currently for the device. 22. The method of claim 17 , wherein the at least one of the user activity information and the user service usage information includes at least one of purchase history, user location, preference, click history, and social network server (SNS) information. 23. The method of claim 17 , wherein the context is used for providing the device with a context aware service predicting a user's interest based on a service usage history. 24. An apparatus for managing context in a communication system, the apparatus comprising: an interface unit for performing wired or wireless communication with at least one node; a storage unit for storing an old temporary identifier of a device; and a control unit configured to: control to receive, from a context analyzer, a request message requesting information for the old temporary identifier of the device to which a new temporary identifier is assigned, and control to transmit, to a context analyzer, a response message including the information for the old temporary identifier, wherein a context of the device is managed by mapping the old temporary identifier of the device to the new temporary identifier of the device without a user identification of the device, and wherein the context of the device comprises at least one of the user activity information and the user service usage information. 25. The apparatus of claim 24 , wherein the old temporary identifier information inclu
