Official abstract text for this publication.
An electronic entity includes contact communication elements ( 4 ) and remote communication elements ( 6 ). Members ( 2 , K) are also provided to authorize an exchange of certain data at least via the remote communication elements based on the prior reception of an instruction via the contact communication elements. A terminal for communication with such an electronic entity as well as methods for controlling and for customizing the electronic entity are disclosed.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of personalizing an electronic entity comprising means for contactless communication and means for contact communication, the method comprising: writing activation information intended to prevent the exchange of certain data at least via the means for contactless communication and writing configuration information indicating access rights to control setting of the activation information, wherein the activation information is modifiable on reception, only via the means for contact communication, of an activation instruction causing the activation information to be set to a predetermined value authorizing an exchange of the certain data at least via contactless communication, the activation information being settable based on the activation instruction subject to the configuration information written in a rewritable non-volatile memory. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the configuration information represents the conditions for modification of the activation information. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the configuration information indicates that the activation information is modifiable following an authentication. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the electronic entity includes a program configured to modify the activation information provided that the conditions represented by the configuration information are met and that said activation instruction is received via the means for contact communication. 5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said written activation information indicates use of the means for contactless communication is inhibited. 6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the activation information is modified when a code received with said activation instruction corresponds to a code stored in the electronic entity. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the electronic entity is locked when the received code is incorrect after a predetermined number of attempts. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic entity includes a control program configured to modify the activation information when a code received with said activation instruction corresponds to a code stored in the electronic entity. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the control program is configured to lock the electronic entity when the received code is incorrect after a predetermined number of attempts. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic entity includes a program configured to modify the activation information on reception of the instruction via the means for contact communication. 11. A method of personalizing an electronic entity comprising contactless communication means, the method comprising: writing configuration information indicating access rights to control setting of activation information to a predetermined value in a rewritable non-volatile memory intended to condition an exchange of certain data at least via the contactless communication means, the configuration information representing conditions for modification of the activation information, the activation information preventing by default the exchange of at least the certain data but being settable to authorize the exchange of the certain data via the contactless communication means based on a received activation instruction via contact communication means, subject to the configuration information, the received activation instructions causing the activation information to be set to the predetermined value. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the configuration information indicates that the activation information is modifiable following an authentication. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the electronic entity includes a program configured to modify the activation information only when the conditions represented by the configuration information are met. 14. A method of personalizing an electronic entity designed for a contactless communication mode and comprising means for contact communication, the method comprising: writing activation information intended to condition use of the contactless communication mode and writing configuration information indicating access rights to control setting of the activation information, the activation information inhibiting by default the contactless communication mode, wherein said activation information is modifiable to be set to authorize the contactless communication mode on reception of an activation instruction causing the activation information to be set to a predetermined value authorizing an exchange of certain data via the contactless communication mode, via the means for contact communication only, subject to the configuration information written in a rewritable non-volatile memory. 15. The method according to claim 14 , wherein said written activation information indicates the contactless communication mode is inhibited. 16. The method according to claim 14 , wherein the activation information is configured to be modified when a code received with said activation instruction corresponds to a code stored in the electronic entity. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the electronic entity is locked when the received code is incorrect after a predetermined number of attempts. 18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the electronic entity includes a control program configured to modify the activation information when a code received with said instruction corresponds to a code stored in the electronic entity. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the control program is configured to lock the electronic entity when the received code is incorrect after a predetermined number of attempts. 20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the electronic entity includes a program configured to modify the activation information on reception of the instruction via the means for contact communication.
