Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

User-submitted content (e.g., stories) may be associated with descriptive metadata (intersection metadata), such as a timeframe, location, tags, and so on. Story content is presented in a virtual space, such as a forum, chatroom, or the like. Users submit collaborative content as the story is presented in the virtual space. The collaborative content is synchronized to presentation of the story. An author may replay the presentation and synchronized collaborative content and/or select portions of the collaborative content for inclusion in the story.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions configured for execution by a computing device, to cause the computing device to perform operations, comprising: receiving a query associated with a user, the query comprising an intersection criteria, the intersection criteria comprising a specified location and a specified timeframe; generating an intersection space responsive to the query by: accessing a plurality of stories, each story submitted by a submitter and comprising one or more content items and having respective intersection metadata, the intersection metadata of each story comprising a location and a timeframe pertaining to the story, selecting stories for inclusion in the intersection space that each have intersection metadata corresponding to the location and the timeframe of the intersection criteria, accessing timeframe-dependent access controls provided by respective submitters that submitted the selected stories; filtering the selected stories based on the timeframe-dependent access controls, such that each remaining selected story in the intersection space is associated with one or more timeframes the user is authorized to access based on the corresponding timeframe-dependent access controls; and displaying the intersection space to the user on a display device, the display comprising indicators of one or more of the filtered stories selected for inclusion in the intersection space. 2. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , the operations further comprising extracting at least a portion of the intersection criteria from a content item associated with the user. 3. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 2 , wherein the content item comprises an image. 4. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the location of the intersection criteria corresponds to a physical location. 5. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the location of the intersection criteria corresponds to a virtual location. 6. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the location of the intersection criteria corresponds to a mobile location. 7. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the specified timeframe corresponds to a virtual timeframe. 8. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein a timeframe-dependent access control of a submitter permits user access to stories that correspond to a first timeframe and denies user access to stories that correspond to a second, different timeframe. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein a timeframe-dependent access control of a submitter permits access to stories associated with a particular timeframe to a first set of users and denies access to the stories associated with the particular timeframe to a second, different set of users. 10. A system, comprising: a network-accessible computing device comprising a processor and a datastore, the datastore comprising a plurality of story records, each story record submitted by a submitter and comprising one or more content items, and each story record assigned a respective timeframe access control and having respective intersection metadata, the intersection metadata of each story record comprising a location and a timeframe pertaining to the story record; an intersection module operating on the processor, wherein the intersection module is configured to: generate an intersection space in response to a query from a user, the query comprising intersection criteria comprising a specified location and a specified timeframe, by selecting story records from the datastore for inclusion in the intersection space each having a location that matches the location of the intersection criteria and a timeframe that matches the timeframe of the intersection criteria, and filtering the story records selected for inclusion in the intersection space based on the timeframe access controls associated with the respective story records, each timeframe access control specified by a submitter that submitted one or more of the selected story records such that each remaining selected story record is associated with one or more timeframes indicated, by a submitter that submitted the remaining selected story record, as being accessible to the user; and an interface module to present the intersection space to the user on a display, the intersection space comprising indicators of one or more of the filtered story records selected for inclusion in the intersection space. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the intersection module is further configured to extract at least a portion of the intersection criteria from an image associated with the user. 12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the location of the intersection criteria corresponds to one of a physical location, a virtual location, or a mobile location. 13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the timeframe of the intersection criteria corresponds to a virtual timeframe. 14. The system of claim 10 , wherein a timeframe access control of a submitter permits user access to story records that correspond to a first timeframe and denies user access to story records that correspond to a second, different timeframe. 15. The system of claim 10 , wherein a timeframe access control of a submitter permits access to story records associated with a particular timeframe to a first set of users and denies access to the story records associated with the particular timeframe to a second, different set of users. 16. A method performed by one or more processors configured to perform operations comprising: receiving a query associated with a user, the query comprising an intersection criteria, the intersection criteria comprising a specified location and a specified timeframe; generating an intersection space responsive to the query by: accessing a plurality of stories stored on a computer-readable storage medium, each story submitted by a submitter and comprising one or more content items and having respective intersection metadata, the intersection metadata of each story comprising a location and a timeframe pertaining to the story, selecting stories for inclusion in the intersection space that each have intersection metadata corresponding to the location and the timeframe of the intersection criteria, filtering the selected stories based on timeframe-dependent access controls associated with the respective selected stories, each timeframe-dependent access control specified by a submitter that submitted one or more of the selected stories such that each remaining selected story is associated with one or more timeframes indicated, by a submitter that submitted the remaining selected story, as being accessible to the user; and displaying the intersection space to the user on a display device, the display comprising indicators of one or more of the filtered stories selected for inclusion in the intersection space. 17. The method of claim 16 , the operations further comprising extracting at least a portion of the intersection criteria from an image associated with the user. 18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the location of the intersection criteria corresponds to one of a physical location, a virtual location, or a mobile location. 19. The method of claim 16 , wherein a timeframe access control of a submitter permits user access to stories that correspond to a first t
