What is claimed is: 1. A segmented scaffold, comprising: first and second radially expandable and disconnected polymer scaffold segments arranged end to end, each segment configured for being crimped to a balloon and having first and second ends, and each segment comprising: at the first and second ends two rings connected to form diamond-shaped cells, wherein every other diamond-shaped cell is omitted to thereby form a zigzag end ring having peak and valley undulations, and wherein a longitudinal length of a valley undulation is a longitudinal length of a diamond-shaped cell, wherein a peak undulation at the first end extends in a first direction and a peak undulation at the second end extends in a second direction opposite the first direction, a valley formed by the zigzag end ring at the first end is longitudinally aligned with a peak formed by the zigzag end ring at the second ring, and the valley is separated from the peak by exactly two longitudinally-aligned diamond shaped cells. 2. The scaffold of claim 1 , wherein prior to crimping each segment has a pre-crimp diameter and a length, and the length is at least 1.5 times the pre-crimp diameter. 3. The scaffold of claim 1 , wherein the first segment is made from a polymer tube or a polymer sheet. 4. A delivery balloon in combination with a segmented scaffold according to claim 1 , wherein the first and second segments are in a reduced crimped state over the delivery balloon. 5. The scaffold of claim 1 , wherein a pair of connected struts forming a corner of a diamond shaped cell forms an angle of between 70 and 110 degrees to limit lengthwise shortening of the segment when expanded from a crimped configuration. 6. A delivery balloon in combination with a segmented scaffold according to claim 3 , wherein the first and second segments are in a reduced crimped state over the delivery balloon. 7. The scaffold of claim 1 , wherein a peak undulation of the first end of the first segment comprises a head portion and the head portion includes an overhang forming an interlocking surface.
