A well system and associated method can include an acoustic generator which can be used to excite a formation with acoustic waves transmitted from the acoustic generator. Another well system and associated method can include an acoustic generator which can transmit acoustic waves into cement surrounding a casing. Another well system and associated method can include an acoustic generator which can be used to transmit acoustic waves into an annulus surrounding a well screen during or after a gravel packing operation. Another well system and associated method can include an acoustic generator which can be connected in a drill string in close proximity to a drill bit, with the acoustic generator transmitting acoustic waves into a formation ahead of the bit.

What is claimed is: 1. A well system, comprising: an acoustic generator which excites a formation with acoustic waves transmitted from the acoustic generator, wherein the acoustic generator is supplied with fuel and oxidizer, one of the fuel or the oxidizer contained in a container, the container operatively conveyed downhole with the acoustic generator; and one or more sensors to measure response of the formation to the acoustic waves transmitted to excite the formation. 2. The well system of claim 1 , wherein the fuel is contained in the container. 3. The well system of claim 2 , wherein the oxidizer is contained in another container, the other container operatively conveyed downhole with the acoustic generator. 4. The well system of claim 1 , wherein the well system includes a wireline to convey the container and the acoustic generator downhole. 5. The well system of claim 1 , where the container is attached to the acoustic generator. 6. A well system, comprising: an acoustic generator which excites a formation with acoustic waves transmitted from the acoustic generator during at least one of a stimulation, fracturing, treatment, conformance, production and drilling operation, wherein the acoustic generator is supplied with fuel and oxidizer for combustion to generate the acoustic waves, one of the fuel or the oxidizer contained in a container, the container operatively conveyed downhole with the acoustic generator, wherein the acoustic generator is also part of a telemetry system such that the acoustic generator is operable to transmit digital data to a remote location, the digital data transmitted via modulation based on control of one or more frequencies of acoustic signals, the modulation selected from a group including transmission of a 0 bit as a first frequency and a 1 bit as another frequency, transmission of a 0 bit by presence of a second frequency and a 1 bit by absence of the second frequency, and transmission of a 0 bit by transmission of a third frequency for a predetermined time period and transmission of a 1 bit by transmission of the third frequency for another predetermined time period. 7. A well system, comprising: an acoustic generator which excites a formation with acoustic waves transmitted from the acoustic generator, wherein the acoustic waves transmitted into the formation are generated to stimulate the formation or to increase wetting and mixing of conformance agents, the increase and mixing of conformance agents being by absorption of acoustic energy of the acoustic waves transmitted into the formation, thereby improving rejection of at least one selected from the group consisting of water and gas from entry to at least one selected from the group consisting of a wellbore region and fractures in the formation, the acoustic generator arranged to generate the acoustic waves tuned to a frequency selected from a group of frequencies. 8. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the frequency is selected based on determined maximum of absorption. 9. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the frequency to increase wetting and mixing of conformance agents is selected to improve production ratios of hydrocarbons/water or oil/water relative to production ratios without excitation of the formation. 10. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the conformance agents include one or more of sealants or relative permeability modifiers. 11. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the acoustic generator is arranged to excite the formation while stimulation fluid is flowed into the formation. 12. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the stimulation fluid includes an acid. 13. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the frequency is selected to equal a resonant frequency of the formation and/or a resonant frequency of an element of the well system. 14. The well system of claim 7 , wherein the well system includes a sensor to determine the selected frequency. 15. The well system of claim 14 , wherein the sensor includes an accelerometer to determine which of the acoustic frequencies results in maximum transfer of acoustic energy.
