Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An anchor holder for concrete decks comprises a body for being inserted into an opening in a metal deck, the body including an outside vertical wall and an opening for receiving an anchor. The body includes arms normally biased extending outwardly from the vertical wall, the arms being collapsible toward the body when the body is inserted into the opening in the metal deck and expanding outwardly after passing the opening to be disposed below the metal deck. A support is attached to the body, the support to engage a top surface of the metal deck to apply an upward force on the body and keep the collapsible arms engaged against an underside of the metal deck when the body is attached to the metal deck.

First claim

I claim: 1. An anchor holder for concrete decks, comprising: a) a monolithic unitary body for being inserted into an opening in a metal deck, said body including an outside vertical wall, said body including an opening for receiving an anchor, said body including an upper portion disposed above the metal deck; b) said body including arms biased extending outwardly from said vertical wall, said arms being collapsible toward said body when said body is inserted into the opening in the metal deck and expanding outwardly after passing the opening to be disposed below the metal deck, said arms being attached to an intermediate portion of said body; and c) a support operably attached to said upper portion of said body, said support to apply an upward force on said body and keep said collapsible arms engaged against an underside of the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 2. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said body is a cylindrical sleeve. 3. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said body is plastic. 4. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein: a) said body includes transverse members extending outwardly from said outside wall at an upper end of said body; b) said support includes a spring disposed between said transverse members and said arms when said body is attached to the metal deck; and c) said spring is biased toward the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck to apply an upward force on said body and keep said collapsible arms engaged against an underside of the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 5. An anchor holder as in claim 4 , wherein: a) said body includes a wedge shaped tab disposed below said transverse members; and b) an upper end portion of said spring is wedged between said tab and said transverse members. 6. An anchor holder as in claim 5 , wherein said spring is helical with increasing diameter from top to bottom. 7. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said body includes a female thread for cooperating with a male thread on an anchor body. 8. An anchor holder as in claim 7 , wherein: a) said body includes an inside projection disposed below said inside thread; and b) said inside projection is substantially in-line with the opening in the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 9. An anchor holder as in claim 8 , and further comprising a coupling disposed within said opening and engaging said inside projection. 10. An anchor holder as in claim 9 , wherein said coupling includes a male thread cooperating with said female thread. 11. An anchor holder as in claim 9 , wherein said coupling includes multiple diameter bores. 12. An anchor holder as in claim 11 , wherein: a) said bores includes first and second outer bores and an intermediate bore disposed between said first and second outer bores; and b) said intermediate bore is smaller in diameter than said first and second outer bores. 13. An anchor as in claim 9 , and further comprising a plug attached to a bottom end of said coupling. 14. An anchor as in claim 8 , wherein said inside projection is a circular ledge. 15. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , and further comprising: a) a plate having an opening through which said body extends; and b) said plate for engaging the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 16. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said opening is longitudinal and cylindrical. 17. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said opening is longitudinal and includes a hexagonal-shaped cross-section. 18. An anchor holder as in claim 17 , and further comprising a hexagonal shaped coupling disposed within said hexagonal-shaped cross-section of said opening. 19. An anchor holder as in claim 1 , wherein said support includes a nut attached to a male thread on said body, said nut for being tightened against a top side of the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 20. A holder as in claim 1 , wherein: a) said body includes a cylindrical lower portion; and b) said arms are attached to an upper portion of said cylindrical lower portion. 21. A holder as in claim 20 , wherein: a) said body includes an upper portion comprising a plurality of longitudinal U-shaped members around an opening of said cylindrical lower portion; and b) said U-shaped members including vertical edges for providing support to a rod portion of an anchor. 22. An anchor assembly for attaching to a metal deck, comprising: a) a monolithic unitary body for being inserted into an opening in a metal deck, said body including an outside vertical wall, said body including an opening, said body including an upper portion disposed above the metal deck; b) said body including arms biased extending outwardly from said vertical wall, said arms being collapsible toward said body when said body is inserted into the opening in the metal deck and expanding outwardly after passing the opening to be disposed below the metal deck, said arms being attached to an intermediate portion of said body; c) a support operably attached to said upper portion of said body to keep said body fastened to the metal deck; and d) an anchor received within said opening. 23. An anchor assembly as in claim 22 , wherein a bottom end of said anchor includes a threaded bore. 24. An anchor assembly as in claim 23 , wherein said bottom end is above an underside of the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 25. An anchor assembly as in claim 23 , wherein said bottom end extends beyond an underside of the metal deck when said body is attached to the metal deck. 26. An anchor assembly as in claim 25 , wherein: a) said bottom end includes a threaded bore; and b) a cap attached to said bottom end to cover said threaded bore. 27. An anchor assembly as in claim 22 , a bottom end of said anchor includes multiple diameter threaded bores. 28. An anchor assembly as in claim 22 , and further comprising: a) a coupling disposed within said opening; and b) said anchor is attached to an upper end of said coupling. 29.
