Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A telecommunications assembly includes a chassis and a plurality of fiber optic splitter modules mounted within the chassis. Each splitter module includes at least one fiber optic connector. Within an interior of the chassis are positioned at least one fiber optic adapter. Inserting the splitter module through a front opening of the chassis at a mounting location positions the connector of the splitter module for insertion into and mating with the adapter of the chassis. The adapters mounted within the interior of the chassis are integrally formed as part of a removable adapter assembly. A method of mounting a fiber optic splitter module within a telecommunications chassis is also disclosed.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A telecommunications assembly, comprising: a telecommunications fixture defining at least one module mounting location that extends longitudinally from a first end of the telecommunications fixture toward a second end; at least one fiber optic adapter mounted to the telecommunications fixture and aligned longitudinally along a direction extending from the first end toward the second end, at least a portion of the at least one adapter positioned at an intermediate location with respect to the fixture between the first end and the second end for receiving at least one connector of a module to be slidably mounted to the telecommunications fixture; and a module including the at least one fiber optic connector adapted to be coupled to the at least one fiber optic adapter mounted on the telecommunications fixture when the module is slidably mounted to the at least one module mounting location of the telecommunications fixture, the module defining a housing extending between a first end and a second end and including a main housing portion and a cover portion for mounting to the main housing portion for closing off an interior defined by the housing of the module, the at least one connector of the module positioned at an intermediate location with respect to the housing between the first end and the second end of the housing, the module including an optical component located within the interior, the module including a first cable management structure in the form of a radius limiter located within the interior for guiding cabling extending between the at least one connector and the optical component, and the module including a second cable management structure in the form of a radius limiter located within the interior for guiding cabling extending between the optical component and a cable exit. 2. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the optical component includes a fiber optic splitter that splits a single incoming signal into a plurality of same outgoing signals that exit through the cable exit. 3. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the main housing portion defines a first transverse wall of the housing and the cover defines a second transverse wall of the housing, the at least one connector generally aligned with the cable exit of the module along a direction extending between the first and second transverse walls. 4. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one fiber optic adapter includes at least two fiber optic adapters. 5. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one fiber optic connector includes at least two fiber optic connectors. 6. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one mounting location defines a bulkhead for contacting the module in slidably guiding the module into the telecommunications fixture. 7. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one fiber optic adapter mounted to the telecommunications fixture is removable and replaceable. 8. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the at least one fiber optic connector is exposed outside of the module housing. 9. A telecommunications assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the module includes a plurality of the cable exits.
