Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An electrical box assembly includes an electrical box having a removable partition plate that can be positioned between the ends of the electrical box or at the end of the electrical box when two or more of the electrical boxes are ganged together. The electrical box can include a mounting bracket having a body portion attached to a wall of the box for supporting the box during use. A support member is coupled to the mounting bracket and is extendable to a length to contact the opposing wall. The mounting and the support member are independently adjustable with respect to the box.

What is claimed is: 1. An electrical box assembly comprising: an electrical box having a rear wall, opposing first and second side walls, and end walls, each of said opposing side walls having an inwardly extending flange configured for supporting an electrical device within an open top of said electrical box; and a first mounting bracket coupled to said first side wall of said electrical box, said first mounting bracket having a top end with an outwardly extending flange configured for mounting to an outer face of a support structure and mounting said electrical box to the support structure, a bottom end with a flange spaced from a bottom end of said electrical box and being configured for contacting the surface of an opposing wall of said support structure to support said electrical box, and a connecting portion extending between said top end and bottom end; and said first mounting bracket being adjustable with respect to the open top end of said electrical box to adjust the position of the electrical box with respect to the support structure. 2. The electrical box assembly of claim 1 , wherein said electrical box has a partition plate having a bottom edge with a tab for coupling said partition plate to said rear wall, and opposite side edges having removable tabs to form a recess with a dimension to receive a coupling screw extending inwardly from said electrical box. 3. The electrical box assembly of claim 1 , wherein said first mounting bracket includes a longitudinally extending slot configured for mating with a coupling screw for adjusting the position of the mounting bracket with respect to said electrical box. 4. The electrical box assembly of claim 3 , wherein said first wall has an outwardly extending detent; and said first mounting bracket includes a plurality of spaced-apart apertures for mating with said detent to position said first mounting bracket in a selected position with respect to said first wall and to position said flange of said first mounting bracket a selected distance from the open top end of the electrical box. 5. The electrical box assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a support member coupled to said first mounting bracket, said support member being adjustable with respect to said first mounting bracket and configured for contacting the opposing wall of the support structure to support said electrical box. 6. The electrical box assembly of claim 5 , wherein said support member has a distal end with an inwardly extending flange configured for contacting the opposing wall surface of the support structure to support said electrical box. 7. The electrical box assembly of claim 6 , wherein said connecting portion of said first mounting bracket includes a body portion coupled to said first wall, a flange extending outward from a bottom end of said body portion, and a longitudinally extending leg extending from said flange and being spaced from a plane of said body portion and spaced from said first wall of said electrical box. 8. The electrical box assembly of claim 7 , wherein said leg includes a detent to contact said first wall of said electrical box and space said leg from said first wall of said electrical box. 9. The electrical box assembly of claim 8 , wherein said leg of said first mounting bracket has a screw received in a threaded hole in said leg; said leg of said support member includes a longitudinal slot configured for receiving said screw and extending through said leg for adjusting the position of said support member with respect to said leg of said first mounting bracket, and where said leg of said mounting bracket is spaced from said first wall a distance to prevent interference of said screw with said first wall. 10. The electrical box assembly of claim 1 , further comprising; a second mounting bracket having a body portion with an elongated slot receiving a screw threaded into said second side wall for adjustably coupling said second mounting bracket to said second side wall and positioning said second mounting bracket a selected distance from said open top of said electrical box; said second mounting bracket having a top end with an outwardly extending flange with a dimension for contacting an inner face of a wall panel, and a bottom end with a flange spaced from said electrical box for contacting the surface of the opposing wall and spaced a first distance from said electrical box, and a support member having a longitudinal slot receiving a screw received in a threaded hole in said second mounting bracket for sliding said support member on said second mounting bracket, said support member having a plurality of apertures oriented in a longitudinal direction of said support member for mating with a detent on said second mounting bracket to position an end of said support member a selected distance from said electrical box. 11. An electrical box assembly comprising: an electrical box having a rear wall, a first wall and a second opposing wall, and an open end, said first and second opposing walls having a flange configured for supporting an electrical device in the open end of said electrical box; a first mounting bracket having a body portion coupled to said electrical box and being adjustable relative to the open top of said electrical box, said mounting bracket having a flange extending outward from a top end of said body portion and configured for coupling to a support structure to support said electrical box and position said electrical box with respect to a first wall of said support structure, said first mounting bracket having a flange extending from a bottom end, and said first mounting bracket having a length to contact a second opposing wall of said support structure spaced a first distance from said first wall of said support structure; and a support member coupled to said mounting bracket and being slidably adjustable with respect to said first mounting bracket to contact a third wall of said support structure spaced a second distance from said first wall of said support structure. 12. The electrical box assembly of claim 11 , wherein said first mounting bracket has a leg extending substantially parallel to said body portion and spaced outwardly from a plane of said body portion by a flange, and said body portion of said first mounting bracket is coupled to said first wall and said leg is spaced outwardly from said first wall of said electrical box. 13. The electrical box assembly of claim 12 , wherein said support member is coupled to said leg by a fastener and where said leg is spaced from said first wall of said electrical box a distance to prevent interference of said fastener with said first wall. 14. The electrical box assembly of claim 13 , wherein one of said support members or said leg further comprises at least one detent, and the other of said support member and leg has at least one aperture for receiving said detent to position said support member in a selected position with respect to said leg; and said support member includes a longitudinally extending slot receiving a coupling screw received in a threaded aperture in said leg for adjusting the position of said support member with respect to said first mounting bracket. 15. The electrical box assembly of claim 12 , wherein said leg of said first mounting bracket includes a detent contacting said first wall to space said leg outwardly from said first wall. 16. An electrical box assembly comprising: an electrical box including a rear wall, a first wall and an opposing second wall, and an open top end; a first mounting bracket having a body
