Official abstract text for this publication.
A medical device may include a handle housing having a side wall defining an interior space and proximal and distal apertures extending through the side wall, an elongated outer sheath, an elongated inner member, a proximal flush port disposed within the interior space and in fluid communication with the elongated inner member, and a distal flush port disposed within the interior space and in fluid communication with the elongated outer sheath. A control knob may be rotated to move the distal flush port within the interior space.

What is claimed is: 1. A medical device, comprising: a handle housing having a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis extending from the proximal end to the distal end; a rotatable control knob disposed about the proximal end of the handle housing operatively coupled to a longitudinally movable sheath adapter disposed within the handle housing; an elongated outer sheath fixed to the sheath adapter, the outer sheath extending distally from the distal end of the handle housing; an elongated inner member extending distally through the distal end of the handle housing within a lumen of the outer sheath; and a distal flush port in fluid communication with the lumen of the outer sheath, the distal flush port being disposed on the sheath adapter. 2. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising a proximal flush port disposed within the handle housing and in fluid communication with the inner member. 3. The medical device of claim 2 , wherein the proximal flush port is accessible from an exterior of the handle housing. 4. The medical device of claim 3 , wherein the proximal flush port is fixed in position relative to the handle housing. 5. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the control knob is configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis. 6. The medical device of claim 5 , wherein rotation of the control knob about the longitudinal axis translates the distal flush port longitudinally within the handle housing. 7. The medical device of claim 6 , wherein the distal flush port is translatable longitudinally within the handle housing along the inner member. 8. The medical device of claim 6 , wherein the distal flush port is translatable longitudinally within the handle housing relative to the inner member. 9. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the handle housing includes a distal aperture extending through a side wall of the handle housing. 10. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the distal flush port is accessible from an exterior of the handle housing. 11. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the distal flush port opens laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis. 12. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the distal flush port is longitudinally movable between a proximal position and a distal position. 13. The medical device of claim 12 , wherein the distal flush port is accessible from an exterior of the handle housing in the proximal position. 14. The medical device of claim 13 , wherein the distal flush port is accessible through a distal aperture extending through a side wall of the handle housing in the proximal position. 15. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising a lead screw extending longitudinally within the handle housing, the lead screw being operatively connected to the control knob and the sheath adapter. 16. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the sheath adapter is disposed within the handle housing distal of the control knob.
