An adjustable assembly for a bicycle includes a first support having an interior surface and a second support slidably positioned within at least a portion of the first support. One of the first support and the second support is adapted to attach to a first bicycle portion, and the other of the first support and the second support is adapted to attach to a second bicycle portion. Further, the second support comprises an expansion portion configured to be moved between an expanded position and a retracted position. The expansion portion is configured to engage the interior surface of the first support when the expansion portion is in an expanded position. In addition, the first support is configured to be selectively moved relative to the second support when the expansion portion is permitted to assume a retracted position.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of adjusting the vertical position of a bicycle component, comprising: securing an adjustable assembly to a bicycle, the assembly comprising: a first support; a second support slidably movable relative to the first support, the second support comprising an expansion portion within the first support and configured to engage at least an inner surface of the first support when the expansion portion is in an expanded position; a biasing assembly configured to urge the first support away from the second support; and an actuator configured to selectively permit the expansion portion to be either in (i) a locked orientation wherein the expansion portion is maintained in the expanded position, or (ii) an unlocked orientation wherein the expansion portion is generally allowed to move into a retracted position, wherein the expansion portion is normally biased into the locked orientation by the actuator; wherein the first support is configured to be slidably moved relative to the second support when the expansion portion is in the unlocked orientation; wherein the first support is configured to be generally stationary relative to the second support when the expansion portion is in the locked orientation; wherein the first support is secured to a first bicycle portion; and wherein the second support is secured to a second bicycle portion; selectively raising the second bicycle portion relative to the first bicycle portion by reducing downward forces on the second bicycle portion and moving the actuator so that the expansion portion is in the unlocked orientation, or selectively lowering the second bicycle portion relative to the first bicycle portion by exerting a downward force on the second bicycle portion and moving the actuator so that the expansion portion is in the unlocked orientation; and maintaining a selected vertical position of the first bicycle portion relative to the second bicycle portion by moving the actuator so that the expansion portion is in the locked orientation; wherein the first support is configured to be slidably moved relative to the second support while a bicycle is being ridden. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first bicycle portion comprises one of a bicycle frame and a bicycle saddle, and the second bicycle portion comprises the other of the bicycle frame and the bicycle saddle. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first bicycle portion comprises one of a fork assembly and a handlebar assembly, and the second bicycle portion comprises the other of the fork assembly and the handlebar assembly. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the actuator comprises a connector and a lever, the lever being operatively attached to the connector. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein selectively raising or lowering the second bicycle portion comprises moving the lever from a first position to a second position against a resilient force, and wherein maintaining a selected position comprises releasing the lever so that the lever moves to the first position. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second bicycle portion is configured to be selectively raised and lowered relative to the first bicycle portion along certain discreet vertical locations. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the adjustable assembly is configured for placement within a seat tube of a bicycle. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the adjustable assembly is an after-market item that replaces at least one original bicycle component positioned within a seat tube of a bicycle frame. 9. An adjustable bicycle fork comprising: a left fork leg; a right fork leg; wherein at least one of the left fork leg and the right fork leg comprises an adjustable assembly, the adjustable assembly comprising: a first support and a second support, the second support being slidably movable relative to the first support, the second support comprising an expansion portion within the first support and configured to engage at least an inner surface of the first support when the expansion portion is in an expanded position; a biasing assembly configured to urge the first support away from the second support; and an actuator configured to move longitudinally to permit the expansion portion to move between (i) a locked orientation wherein the expansion portion is maintained in the expanded position, and (ii) an unlocked orientation wherein the expansion portion is generally allowed to move into a retracted position; and wherein movement of the first support relative to the second support modifies a length of the left fork leg and the right fork leg. 10. The adjustable bicycle fork of claim 9 , wherein the first support is configured to be slidably moved relative to the second support while a bicycle is being ridden. 11. The adjustable bicycle fork of Claim 10 , wherein the actuator comprises a connector and a lever, the lever being operatively attached to the connector.
