Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a method for fabricating absorbent article having multiple layers, and deformed zones of targeted performance, and colored regions, the method comprising the steps of forming discrete features on at least one layer, printing colored regions on at least one layer, integrating multiple layers to form an absorbent assembly, and cutting the absorbent assembly into individual absorbent articles, wherein the steps are carried out continuously.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for fabricating an absorbent article, the absorbent article comprising a liquid permeable topsheet comprising a first layer and a second layer, a plurality of first discrete features, and a plurality of second discrete features; a colored sheet comprising a precursor sheet having a first colored region; and a liquid impermeable backsheet comprising a backsheet web, the absorbent article having a body-facing surface comprising the first layer, the method comprising the steps of: a) forming the plurality of first discrete features on the first layer with a first forming unit to form a deformed first layer, wherein the plurality of first discrete features is formed by feeding the first layer in a machine direction into a nip that is formed between two rollers, each of the two rollers having surfaces wherein at least one of the two rollers has first discrete feature forming elements on its surface, and when the first layer is fed into the nip, the first layer is deformed to form the deformed first layer; b) supplying the second layer onto the deformed first layer to form a layered composite of the deformed first layer and the second layer; c) forming the plurality of second discrete features on the layered composite with a second forming unit, which is different than and spaced apart from the first forming unit, to form a deformed layered composite of the deformed first layer and the second layer; d) supplying the precursor sheet onto the second layer of the deformed layered composite, and integrating the deformed layered composite and the precursor sheet to form an integrated layered composite; e) supplying the backsheet web onto a precursor sheet side of the integrated layered composite, and integrating the integrated layered composite and the backsheet web to form an absorbent article assembly; and f) severing the absorbent article assembly into individual absorbent articles, wherein the absorbent article has a background region, wherein the background region and the first colored region are viewable from the body-facing surface of the absorbent article, wherein the first colored region differs in color from the background region, and wherein the steps of a) to f) are carried out in a continuous manner. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the precursor sheet having a first colored region is prepared by providing the precursor web with the first colored region by a first coloration technique, and cutting the precursor sheet in a predetermined size and shape. 3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein e first coloration technique is selected from the group consisting of ink jet printing, gravure printing, flexographic printing, lithographic printing, screen printing, a printing using an activatable colorant and combinations thereof. 4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the steps b) and c) are carried out simultaneously. 5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising a step of providing the first layer with a second colored region by a second coloration technique carried out prior to step d), wherein the first colored region and the second colored region differ in color from the background region. 6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising a step of providing the first layer with a second colored region by a second coloration technique carried out prior to step a) or between steps c) and d), wherein the first colored region and the second colored region differ in color from the background region. 7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first discrete features are features selected from the group consisting of apertures, protrusions, depressions, tufts and combinations thereof, and the second discrete feature are features selected from the group consisting of apertures, protrusions, depressions, tufts and combinations thereof. 8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first discrete features are apertures.
