Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A wearable device assembly has a housing supporting a controller, display and indicator system thereon. The controller has at least one sensor wherein activity of a user wearing the device is detected. The controller selectively illuminates the indicator system to indicate a level of activity of the user.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus comprising: a processor; and memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to: establish a communication link with a wearable activity monitoring device different from the apparatus; transmit, to the wearable activity monitoring device, location information associated with a first athletic activity performed by a user; receive activity information from the wearable activity monitoring device, the activity information corresponding to at least the first athletic activity performed by the user of the wearable activity monitoring device; determine, based on the location information, a first activity type for the received activity information; determine whether the user of the wearable activity monitoring device exceeded an activity goal by a first threshold amount; and in response to determining that the user exceeded the activity goal by the first threshold amount, award the user with a first activity reward. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to award the user with a second activity reward in response to determining that the user exceeded the activity goal by a second threshold amount. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: generate a message including an indication of the first activity reward; and transmit the message to a community site using an account of the user on the community site. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: receive configuration settings for the wearable activity monitoring device; and configure the wearable activity monitoring device through the communication link based on the configuration settings. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to generate a prompt to increase the activity goal in response to determining that the activity goal has been completed. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine a physical location of the wearable activity monitoring device; and store the physical location in association with the activity information. 7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine a first activity type for a first portion of the activity information; and store the first activity type in association with the first portion of the activity information. 8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein determining the first activity type includes receiving a user indication of the first activity type. 9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first activity type is determined from an activity type previously specified in association with the location information. 10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine a second activity type for a second portion of the activity information and store the second activity type in association with the second portion of the activity information. 11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: generate a summary of the activity information including identification of a first amount of activity of the first activity type recorded and a second amount of activity of the second activity type recorded. 12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to receiving a selection of an image to associate with the activity information. 13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: receive a user indication of a subjective feeling toward the first athletic activity or performance of the first athletic activity; and store the user indication of the subjective feeling with the image in association with the activity information. 14. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: receive user input indicating a friend participating in at least the first athletic activity; retrieve, from a computing device, activity data corresponding to at least the first athletic activity performed by the friend; and store the retrieved activity data corresponding to at least the first athletic activity performed by the friend in association with the received activity information from the wearable activity monitoring device. 15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine an accumulated energy expenditure value for the user based on at least the first athletic activity performed by the user; detect, by a sensor, a first movement of the apparatus; and in response to detecting the first movement of the apparatus, update the accumulated energy expenditure value for the user based on the received activity information from the wearable activity monitoring device. 16. An apparatus comprising: a processor; and memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to: receiving activity information from a wearable activity monitoring device, the activity information corresponding to recorded activity of a user of the wearable activity monitoring device; determining whether the user of the wearable activity monitoring device completed a current activity goal; in response to determining that the user completed the current activity goal: determining whether a first number of most recent consecutive activity goals, including the current activity goal, have been completed, wherein the first number of most recent consecutive activity goals is greater than or equal to 2; and in response to determining that the first number of most recent consecutive activity goals have been completed, providing the user with a first reward. 17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine whether a second number of most recent consecutive activity goals, including the current activity goal, have been completed, wherein the second number of most recent consecutive activity goals is greater than or equal to 2; and in response to determining that the second number of most recent consecutive activity goals have been completed, provide the user with a second reward different from the first reward. 18. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine whether completion of the current activity goal corresponds to beginning a streak of completing activity goals, wherein the streak corresponds to completion of at least two consecutive activity goals. 19. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to: determine that the user did not complete the current activity goal; and determining whether non-completion of the current activity goal corresponds to breaking a streak of completing activity goals, wherein the streak corresponds to completion of at least two consecutive activity goals. 20. The apparatus o
