Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An approach for machine-to-machine vertical integration with publisher-subscriber architecture is provided. The approach includes dynamically registering a plurality of sensors associated with a plurality of subscribers. The sensors are monitored as part of a sensor platform to maintain sensor data for the plurality of subscribers. Also, the sensor data are acquired from the plurality of sensors as a collective data set to determine one or more trends. The collective data set is tagged with metadata for the determined trend.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: detecting a plurality of sensors associated with a plurality of subscribers, wherein the detecting includes identifying respective sensors in the plurality of sensors; dynamically registering, utilizing at least one processor, the respective sensors in the plurality of sensors, wherein registering the plurality of sensors includes installing interfacing software associated with one or more of the plurality of sensors; creating at least two sensor agents associated with one or more of the registered sensors based on the identification; determining one or more sensor agent policy settings, wherein the determined sensor agent policy settings are configured to enhance data processing, via the at least two sensor agents, in delivering a limited selection of data originating from the detected plurality of sensors; generating one or more connections between the at least two sensor agents; monitoring the plurality of sensors to acquire raw sensor data associated with the plurality of subscribers; acquiring the raw sensor data from the plurality of sensors, utilizing the at least two connected sensor agents, as a collective data set based on the sensor agent policy settings; and converting, at least in part, the acquired raw sensor data into a universal format compatible with different types of applications, wherein the collective data set includes converted data based on acquired raw sensor data. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying one or more trends in the sensor data utilizing the one or more sensor agents; tagging the collective data set with metadata associated with the determined trends; and creating analytics associated with the identified one or more trends, wherein the plurality of sensors are direct sensors. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: transmitting the converted data to two or more different types of applications. 4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising: detecting a data format associated with the acquired sensor data; and creating the universal data format based on the detected data format. 5. The method of claim 3 , further comprising: determining one or more characteristics associated with the one or more applications associated with the collective data set; grouping the applications based on the characteristics; and creating the universal data format based on the application grouping. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining subscriber information; and tagging the acquired sensor data with the subscriber information, wherein access to the collective data set is based, at least in part, on the tagged subscriber information. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subscribers include users, devices, gateways, services, or a combination thereof. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining subscriber registration information associated with published data feeds. 9. An apparatus comprising: at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following, detect a plurality of sensors associated with a plurality of subscribers, wherein the detecting includes identifying respective sensors in the plurality of sensors, dynamically register the respective sensors in the plurality of sensors, wherein registering the plurality of sensors includes installing interfacing software associated with one or more of the plurality of sensors, create at least two sensor agents associated with one or more of the registered sensors based on the identification, determine one or more sensor agent policy settings, wherein the determined sensor agent policy settings are configured to enhance data processing, via the at least two sensor agents, in delivering a limited selection of data originating from the detected plurality of sensors, generate one or more connections between the at least two sensor agents, monitor the plurality of sensors to acquire raw sensor data associated with the plurality of subscribers, acquire the raw sensor data from the plurality of sensors, utilizing the at least two connected sensor agents, as a collective data set based on the sensor agent policy settings, and convert, at least in part, the acquired raw sensor data into a universal format compatible with different types of applications, wherein the collective data set includes converted data based on acquired raw sensor data. 10. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: identify one or more trends in the sensor data utilizing the one or more sensor agents, tag the collective data set with metadata associated with the determined trends, and create analytics associated with the identified one or more trends, wherein the plurality of sensors are direct sensors. 11. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: transmit the converted data to two or more different types of applications. 12. The apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: detect a data format associated with the acquired sensor data; and create the universal data format based on the detected data format. 13. The apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: determine one or more characteristics associated with the one or more applications associated with the collective data set; group the applications based on the characteristics; and create the universal data format based on the application grouping. 14. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: determine subscriber information; and tag the acquired sensor data with the subscriber information, wherein access to the collective data set is based, at least in part, on the tagged subscriber information. 15. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the subscribers include users, devices, gateways, services, or a combination thereof. 16. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: determine subscriber registration information associated with published data feeds. 17. A system comprising: at least one processor; a plurality of sensors associated with a plurality of subscribers; and a sensor platform, the sensor platform and the plurality of sensors configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the system to perform at least the following, detect the plurality of sensors, wherein the detecting includes identifying respective sensors in the plurality of sensors, dynamically register the respective sensors in the plurality of sensors, wherein registering the plurality of sensors includes installing interfacing software associated with one or more of the plurality of sensors, create at least two sensor agents associated with one or more of the registered sensors based on the identification, determine one or more sensor agent policy settings, wherein the determined sensor agent policy settings are configured to enhance data processing, via the at least two sensor agents, in delivering a limited selection of data originating from the detected plurality of sensors, generate one or more connections between the at least two sensor agents, monitor the plurality of sensors to acquire raw sensor data associated with the plurality of subscribers, acquire
