A titanium oxide raw material for a welding material, which can achieve the improvement in a bead shape and high-speed welding. The titanium oxide raw material has the form of particles and has a composition containing 58.0 to 99.0 mass % of TiO2, 2.5 mass % or less of Si, 3.0 mass % or less of Al, 5.0 mass % or less of Mn, 35.0 mass % or less of Fe, 5.0 mass % or less of Mg and 2.0 mass % or less of Ca, wherein the surface of each of the particles is coated with an oxide and/or a composite oxide of at least one element selected from Ti, Fe, Mn, Al and Si and the atom percentages of Ti, Fe, Mn, Al, Si and O in the oxide and/or the composite oxide fulfill the following three formulae. 1=Al+Si=10, 1<Ti/(Fe+Mn)=100, O/(Fe+Mn)=100

The invention claimed is: 1. A particulate titanium oxide raw material, comprising relative to the total mass of the titanium oxide raw material: from 58.0% to 99.0% by mass of TiO 2 ; 2.5% by mass or less of Si; 3.0% by mass or less of Al; 5.0% by mass or less of Mn; 35.0% by mass or less of Fe; 5.0% by mass or less of Mg; and 2.0% by mass or less of Ca, wherein a surface of each particle comprises a composite oxide comprising Al and Si such that atomic percentages of Al and Si in the composite oxide satisfy the following formula: 1≦Al+Si≦10. 2. The titanium oxide raw material of claim 1 , wherein atomic percentages of Al and Si in the composite oxide satisfy 1.5≦Al+Si≦6. 3. The titanium oxide raw material of claim 1 , wherein atomic percentages of Ti, Fe, Mn, and O in the composite oxide satisfy the following formulae: 1<Ti/(Fe+Mn)≦100; and O/(Fe+Mn)≦100. 4. The titanium oxide raw material of claim 2 , wherein atomic percentages of Ti, Fe, Mn, and O in the composite oxide satisfy the following formulae: 1<Ti/(Fe+Mn)≦100; and O/(Fe+Mn)≦100.
