A circulating moving bed and process for separating a carbon dioxide from a gas stream is disclosed. The circulating moving bed can include an adsorption reactor and a desorption reactor, and a sorbent that moves through the two reactors. The sorbent can enter the adsorptive reactor and one end and move to an exit point distal to its entry point, while a CO 2 feed stream can enter near the distal point and move countercurrently through the sorbent to exit at a position near the entry point of the sorbent. The sorbent can adsorb the CO 2 by concentration swing adsorption and adsorptive displacement. The sorbent can then transfer to a regeneration reactor and can move countercurrently against a flow of steam through the regeneration reactor. The sorbent can be regenerated and the carbon dioxide recaptured by desorbing the carbon dioxide from the sorbent using concentration swing desorption and desorptive displacement with steam.

We claim: 1. A circulating moving bed system comprising a sorbent, a CO 2 feed stream, a regeneration stream, an adsorption reactor and a desorption reactor, wherein the adsorption reactor comprises a first entry point for the sorbent at an end of the adsorption reactor, a second entry point for the CO 2 feed stream distal to the first entry point, a sorbent exit point for the sorbent proximal to the second entry point, and a feed stream exit point proximal to the first entry point; the regeneration reactor comprises a first entry point for the sorbent at an end of the regeneration reactor, a second entry point for the regeneration stream distal to the first entry point, a sorbent exit point for the sorbent proximal to the second entry point, and a regeneration stream exit point proximal to the first entry point; wherein the circulating moving bed system does not operate by temperature swing or pressure swing adsorption, and wherein the regeneration reactor configured for a concentration swing and a desorptive displacement, the concentration swing comprising partial pressure purge desorption and the desorptive displacement comprising a process wherein an adsorbed CO 2 molecule is displaced from the sorbent by steam during the desorption step. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent adsorbs CO 2 by concentration swing adsorption and displacement adsorption, displacing water on the sorbent with CO 2 , and desorbs CO 2 by concentration swing adsorption and displacement desorption of the CO 2 on the sorbent by steam. 3. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sorbent transport system to move sorbent between each reactor. 4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the sorbent transport system is included in either the adsorption or regeneration reactor, and moves sorbent in a direction opposite to the direction of either the CO 2 feed stream or the regeneration stream, respectively. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the regeneration stream comprises steam. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first entry point is vertically separated from second entry points in either or both of the adsorption reaction and the regeneration reactor. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the stream exiting the adsorption reactor at the feed stream exit point is a CO 2 -depleted stream. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the stream exiting the regeneration reactor at the regeneration stream exit point is a CO 2 -enriched stream. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent comprises a substrate and at least one alkali or alkaline earth component. 10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent comprises an alumina component and at least one alkali or alkaline earth component.
