Official abstract text for this publication.
An air filter arrangement is disclosed. The air filter arrangement includes strips of media comprising fluted sheets secured to facing sheets and forming inlet and outlet flutes secured to one another in a stack. Media pack arrangements including such stacked media with peripheral, perimeter, housing seal arrangements are described. Also described are air cleaners including the filter cartridges. Methods of assembly and use are also provided. Also, systems of use are described.

What is claimed is: 1. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a filter media pack having first and second, opposite, flow faces; the filter media pack comprising fluted media secured to facing media to define inlet and outlet flow channels extending between the first and second, opposite, flow faces; (i) the filter media pack being closed to passage of air therethrough, from the first flow face to the opposite second flow face, without filtering passage through the media; and, (ii) the first flow face being generally planar and perpendicular to a direction of extension of the media between the inlet and outlet flow faces; (b) a housing seal arrangement comprising a perimeter seal extending completely around the media pack (i) the housing seal arrangement comprising a pinch seal lip having a seal surface positioned for sealing engagement with a housing component in use; the seal surface facing, generally, in an opposite direction from the first flow face and, generally, in the same direction as the second flow face; (ii) the seal surface extending completely around the media pack and including at least one seal surface portion, as it extends in a direction around the media pack, that is non-parallel to the first flow face. 2. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) at least a portion of the first seal surface of the pinch seal lip, that extends in a direction non-parallel to the first flow face, extends at an angle of at least 2° relative to the first flow face. 3. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) at least a portion of the first seal surface of the pinch seal lip that extends in a direction non-parallel to the first flow face extends at an angle of no greater than 45° relative to the first flow face. 4. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) at least a portion of the first seal surface of the pinch seal lip, that extends in a direction non-parallel to the first flow face, extends at an angle within the range of 5°-15° relative to the first flow face. 5. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the pinch seal lip includes opposite surfaces each of which has at least one surface portion that, in extending in a direction around the media, extends non-parallel to the first flow face. 6. An air filter cartridge according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the pinch seal lip has a portion extending at an angle of at least 2° relative to the first flow face. 7. An air filter cartridge according to claim 5 wherein: (a) the pinch seal lip has a portion extending at an angle within the range of 5°-15° relative to the first flow face. 8. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media pack has a non-circular cross-sectional definition in a direction parallel to the first flow face. 9. An air filter cartridge according to claim 8 wherein: (a) the media pack defines a first pair of first and second opposite sides; and, a second pair of opposite sides extending between the first pair of first and second opposite sides. 10. An air filter cartridge according to claim 9 wherein: (a) the pinch seal lip extends along a path non-parallel to the first flow face, in extension across at least one of the first pair of opposite sides. 11. An air filter cartridge according to claim 10 wherein: (a) each one of the first pair of opposite sides, of the media pack, has a panel secured thereto; (i) the pinch seal lip extending across the panels. 12. An air filter cartridge according to claim 10 wherein: (a) the housing seal arrangement comprises a base and the pinch seal lip; (i) the pinch seal lip being positioned on, and molded integral with, the base; and, (ii) the base and pinch seal lip define a trough between at least a portion of the pinch seal lip and the media pack. 13. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the media comprises a stack of strips of fluted media secured to facing media. 14. An air filter cartridge according to claim 13 wherein: (a) the pinch seal lip extends along a path non-parallel to the first flow face, in extension across at least one of the first pair of opposite sides. 15. An air filter cartridge according to claim 14 wherein: (a) the housing seal arrangement comprises a base and the pinch seal lip; (i) the pinch seal lip being positioned on, and molded integral with, the base; and, (ii) the base and pinch seal lip define a trough between at least a portion of the pinch seal lip and the media pack. 16. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the housing seal arrangement comprises a base and the pinch seal lip; (i) the pinch seal lip being positioned on, and molded integral with, the base; and, (ii) the base and pinch seal lip define a trough between at least a portion of the pinch seal lip and the media pack. 17. An air filter cartridge comprising: (a) a filter media pack having first and second opposite flow faces; the filter media pack comprising fluted filter media secured to facing media to define inlet and outlet flow channels extending between the first and second, opposite, flow faces; (i) the filter media pack being closed to passage of air therethrough, from the first flow face to the opposite second flow face, without filtering passage through the media; and, (ii) the filter media pack having a configuration with the first flow face being planar in extension across a direction of flow through the media pack; (b) a housing seal arrangement comprising a perimeter seal extending around the media pack; (i) the housing seal arrangement being positioned spaced from at least one of the first and second, opposite, flow faces; (ii) the perimeter seal having a first section that extends across a portion of the media pack; along a path not continuously parallel to the first flow face; and, (iii) the housing seal arrangement including a base and a pinch seal lip; (A) the pinch seal lip being positioned on, and molded integral with, the base; and, (B) the base and pinch seal lip defining a trough between at least a portion of the pinch seal lip and the media pack. 18. An air filter cartridge according to claim 1 wherein: (a) the filter media pack comprises a stacked construction of strips of filter media comprising fluted media secured to facing media. 19. An air filter cartridge according to claim 17 including: (a) first and second side panels positioned, respectively, on a first pair of opposite sides of the media pack. 20. An air filter cartridge according to claim 19 wherein: (a) the housing seal arrangement extends across the first and second side panels.
