Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed herein are methods for providing a buy option to social networking communications. The method includes communicating with a social networking site that posts images from posting entities to receiving entities. The image can have data that points to a product database. The data is processed to determine whether there is a sale-related intent such as a product in a product database. The data is used to access a database of products for sale from the merchant. When the sale-related intent applies, the system transmits the image through the social networking site with a buy button associated with the transmission such that a recipient can easily purchase a product.

We claim: 1. A method comprising: posting, by a posting entity, an image or a video through a social networking site to yield a posted image or video, wherein the social networking site receives and transmits items from posting entities to receiving entities, and wherein the social networking site: determines, via processor, using text data associated with the posted image or video, whether there is a product within a product database for sale from the posting entity to yield a determination; when the determination indicates that there is no reference to the product in the product database: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site without an option to buy; and when the determination indicates that the posted image or video references the product in the product database, and thus indicating a sale-related intent: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site with a buy option associated with the image or the video, wherein the buy option comprises one of a button, a drop-down menu, or a hyperlink; and receives data that a user of the social networking site interacted with the buy option. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the posting entity is merchant. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the social networking site processes a payment for an item in the posted image or video. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the posting entity receives, from the social networking site payment data after the social networking site processes the payment for the item. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, when the user of the social networking site interacts with the posted image or video: receiving a transition of the user of the social networking site from the social networking site at a deep link on a site of the posting entity. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the deep link within the site of the posting entity comprises a state in the site of the posting entity in which the user of the social networking site can purchase an item. 7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising, at the site of the posting entity: receiving a payment of the item. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the social networking site determines whether the posted image or video is associated with the product in the product database from the posting entity via an application programming interface between the social networking site and the product database. 9. A system comprising: a processor; and a computer-readable storage device storing instructions, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: posting, by a posting entity, an image or a video through a social networking site to yield a posted image or video, wherein the social networking site receives and transmits items from posting entities to receiving entities, and wherein the social networking site: determines, using text data associated with the posted image or video, whether there is a product within a product database for sale from the posting entity to yield a determination; when the determination indicates that there is no reference to the product in the product database: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site without an option to buy; and when the determination indicates that the posted image or video references the product in the product database, and thus indicating a sale-related intent: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site with a buy option associated with the image or the video, wherein the buy option comprises one of a button, a drop-down menu, or a hyperlink; and receives data that a user of the social networking site interacted with the buy option. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the posting entity is merchant. 11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the social networking site processes a payment for an item. 12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the posting entity receives, from the social networking site, payment data after the social networking site processes the payment for the item. 13. The system of claim 9 , further comprising, when the user of the social networking site interacts with the posted image or video: receiving a transition of the user of the social networking site from the social networking site at a deep link on a site of the posting entity. 14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the deep link within the site of the posting entity comprises a state in the site of the posting entity in which the user of the social networking site can purchase an item. 15. The system of claim 14 , further comprising, at the site of the posting entity: receiving a payment of the item. 16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the social networking site determines whether the posted image or video is associated with the product in the product database from the posting entity via an application programming interface between the social networking site and the product database. 17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage device storing instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: posting, by a posting entity, an image or a video through a social networking site to yield a posted image or video, wherein the social networking site receives and transmits items from posting entities to receiving entities, and wherein the social networking site: determines, via processor, using text data associated with the posted image or video, whether there is a product within a product database for sale from the posting entity to yield a determination; when the determination indicates that there is no reference to the product in the product database: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site without an option to buy; and when the determination indicates that the posted image or video references the product in the product database, and thus indicating a sale-related intent: transmits the posted image or video through the social networking site with a buy option associated with the image or the video, wherein the buy option comprises one of a button, a drop-down menu, or a hyperlink; and receives data that a user of the social networking site interacted with the buy option. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the posting entity is merchant. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the social networking site processes a payment for an item. 20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 17 , further comprising, when the user of the social networking site interacts with the posted image or video: receiving a transition of the user of the social networking site from the social networking site at a deep link on a site of the posting entity. 21. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: processing, by the posting entity, a delivery of an item based on the data. 22. The system of claim 9 , wherein the computer-readable storage device stores additional instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: processing, by the posting entity, a delivery of an item based on the data. 23. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 17 , wherein the computer-readable storage device stores additional instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: Pro
