An article of footwear is disclosed that includes upper and a sole structure. The upper defines an interior void that is configured to receive the sole structure and a foot. A lower surface of the upper defines a plurality of apertures, and the sole structure includes a plurality of projections that extend through the apertures to form a ground-engaging surface. The projections are connected to a foot-supporting member that remains within the upper. A locking system is incorporated into the upper and sole structure to secure the sole structure to the upper.

That which is claimed is: 1. An article of footwear, comprising: an upper having an ankle opening and a bottom portion located opposite the ankle opening, the bottom portion defining a first aperture located at a lateral side of the bottom portion and a second aperture located at a medial side of the bottom portion, wherein the bottom portion of the upper includes a material that enables the first aperture and the second aperture to stretch; and a sole structure that is securable to and separable from the upper, the sole structure including: a foot-supporting element, a first projection extending from a lateral side of the foot-supporting element, wherein the first projection includes a first indentation that extends at least partially around the first projection, and a second projection extending from a medial side of the foot-supporting element, wherein the second projection includes a second indentation that extends at least partially around the second projection, wherein the sole structure is insertable through the ankle opening such that the foot-supporting element is positioned adjacent the bottom portion of the upper and such that: (a) the first projection extends through and stretches the first aperture and (b) the second projection extends through and stretches the second aperture, and wherein the sole structure is secured to the upper, at least in part, by: (a) an edge of the first aperture extending into the first indentation of the first projection and (b) an edge of the second aperture extending into the second indentation of the second projection. 2. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first indentation extends around only a portion of the first projection and the second indentation extends around only a portion of the second projection. 3. An article of footwear according to claim 2 , wherein the portion of the first projection that includes the first indentation is located at least on a portion of the first projection that faces outward with respect to the article of footwear. 4. An article of footwear according to claim 3 , wherein the portion of the second projection that includes the second indentation is located at least on a portion of the second projection that faces outward with respect to the article of footwear. 5. An article of footwear according to claim 4 , wherein a portion of the edge of the first aperture that does not extend into the first indentation includes a rounded configuration, and wherein a portion of the edge of the second aperture that does not extend into the second indentation includes a rounded configuration. 6. An article of footwear according to claim 2 , wherein the portion of the second projection that includes the second indentation is located at least on a portion of the second projection that faces outward with respect to the article of footwear. 7. An article of footwear according to claim 2 , wherein a portion of the edge of the first aperture that does not extend into the first indentation includes a rounded configuration, and wherein a portion of the edge of the second aperture that does not extend into the second indentation includes a rounded configuration. 8. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first indentation extends entirely around the first projection. 9. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the second indentation extends entirely around the second projection. 10. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first indentation extends around only a portion of the first projection. 11. An article of footwear according to claim 10 , wherein the portion of the first projection that includes the first indentation is located at least on a portion of the first projection that faces outward with respect to the article of footwear. 12. An article of footwear according to claim 11 , wherein a portion of the edge of the first aperture that does not extend into the first indentation includes a rounded configuration. 13. An article of footwear according to claim 10 , wherein a portion of the edge of the first aperture that does not extend into the first indentation includes a rounded configuration. 14. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the second indentation extends around only a portion of the second projection. 15. An article of footwear according to claim 14 , wherein the portion of the second projection that includes the second indentation is located at least on a portion of the second projection that faces outward with respect to the article of footwear. 16. An article of footwear according to claim 15 , wherein a portion of the edge of the second aperture that does not extend into the second indentation includes a rounded configuration. 17. An article of footwear according to claim 14 , wherein a portion of the edge of the second aperture that does not extend into the second indentation includes a rounded configuration. 18. An article of footwear according to claim 1 , wherein the first aperture is located at a lateral heel area of the upper, the second aperture is located at a medial heel area of the upper, the first projection is located at a lateral heel area of the sole structure, and the second projection is located at a medial heel area of the sole structure. 19.
