The present invention provides a phosphor comprising a europium-activated sialon crystal having a basic composition represented by a formula: (Sr 1-x , Eu x ) α Si β Al γ O δ N ω (1) (wherein x is 0<x<1, α is 0<α≦4 and β, γ, δ and ω are numbers such that converted numerical values when α is 3 satisfy 9<β≦15, 1≦γ≦5, 0.5≦δ≦3 and 10≦ω≦30), wherein the phosphor is composed of particles having a sphericity of 0.65 or more and emits green light by being excited by ultraviolet light, violet light or blue light.
