An architecture is described that can determine a scanning schedule for reselection scanning in connection with a wireless communication network or service. The architecture can monitor various indicia relating to recent movement of user equipment (UE) such as a wireless device, and, based upon such recent movement indicia, construct a mobility pattern for the UE. In addition, based upon the mobility pattern, the architecture can generate a reselection scanning schedule for the UE designed to optimize tradeoffs between battery life and network awareness.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: a processor; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising analyzing a respective identifier associated with each of a plurality of access point devices selected during selection scans performed, over a period of time, by a user equipment, determining, based on analysis of the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, a pattern of motion for the user equipment, classifying, based at least in part on the pattern of motion determined for the user equipment, the user equipment into a rate of motion category of a plurality of rate of motion categories, wherein the plurality of rate of motion categories comprise a stationary category, a low mobility category, and a high mobility category and wherein the rate of motion category is associated with a rate of motion of the user equipment, wherein classifying the user equipment comprises classifying the user equipment into the low mobility category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that a portion of respective identifiers associated with the plurality of access point devices comprise a repeating set of access point device identifiers, and determining, based on the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified, a selection scan schedule for the user equipment, wherein the selection scan schedule defines how often the user equipment scans for available access point devices for handling communication transactions. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein classifying the user equipment comprises classifying the user equipment into the stationary category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices comprises a single access point device identifier. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein classifying the user equipment comprises classifying the user equipment into the high mobility category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that respective identifiers associated with the plurality of access point devices comprise a set of access point device identifications without a repeat identifier. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting the selection scan schedule to the user equipment to facilitate an implementation of the selection scan schedule on the user equipment. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein determining, based on the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified, the selection scan schedule for the user equipment comprises: determining a first selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the stationary category, wherein the first selection scan is associated with a first interval; determining a second selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the low mobility category, wherein the second selection scan is associated with a second interval that is shorter than the first interval; and determining a third selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the high mobility category, wherein the third selection scan is associated with a third interval that is shorter than the first interval and the second interval. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the period of time is based upon a number of the selection scans performed by the user equipment. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise resolving inconsistencies in the pattern of motion of the user equipment for use in classifying the user equipment into the rate of motion category of the plurality of rate of motion categories. 8. A method comprising: analyzing, by a system comprising a processor, a respective identifier associated with each of a plurality of access point devices selected during selection scans performed, over a period of time, by a user equipment; determining, by the system based on analysis of the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, a pattern of motion for the user equipment; categorizing, by the system based at least in part on the pattern of motion determined for the user equipment, the user equipment into a rate of motion category of a plurality of rate of motion categories, wherein the plurality of rate of motion categories comprise a stationary category, a low mobility category, and a high mobility category and wherein the rate of motion category is associated with a rate of motion of the user equipment, wherein categorizing the user equipment comprises categorizing the user equipment into the low mobility category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that a portion of respective identifiers associated with the plurality of access point devices comprise a repeating set of access point device identifiers; and determining, based on the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified, a selection scan schedule for the user equipment, wherein the selection scan schedule defines how often the user equipment scans for available access point devices for handling communication transactions. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein determining, based on the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified, the selection scan schedule for the user equipment comprises: determining a first selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the stationary category, wherein the first selection scan is associated with a first interval; determining a second selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the low mobility category, wherein the second selection scan is associated with a second interval that is shorter than the first interval; and determining a third selection scan for the user equipment when the rate of motion category into which the user equipment is classified is the high mobility category, wherein the third selection scan is associated with a third interval that is shorter than the first interval and the second interval. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein categorizing the user equipment comprises categorizing the user equipment into the high mobility category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that respective identifiers associated with the plurality of access point devices comprise no duplicate access point device identifiers. 11. The method of claim 8 , wherein categorizing the user equipment comprises categorizing the user equipment into the stationary category in response to determining, based on analyzing the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices, that the respective identifier associated with each of the plurality of access point devices comprises a single access point device identifier. 12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising resolving inconsistencies in the pattern of motion of the user equipment for use in classifying the user equipment into
