Compounds having the following formula I: or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof, where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , and R 5 are as defined herein, are useful in the modulation of IL-12, IL-23 and/or IFNa, by acting on Tyk-2 to cause signal transduction inhibition.

A compound according to claim 1 which is or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. 3. A compound according to claim 2 which is or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. 4. A compound according to claim 2 which is or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. 5. A compound according to claim 2 which is or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. 6. A compound according to claim 3 which is or a stereoisomer or pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. 7. A pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more compounds according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. 8. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound according to claim 6 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. 9. A method of treating a disease, comprising administering to a patient in need of such treatment a therapeutically-effective amount of a compound according to claim 6 wherein the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
