Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An anchor and an attachment base assembly comprises a base having at least one base aperture, and an anchor selectively operatively connected to the base. The anchor is selectively inserted at least partially into the at least one base aperture and optionally into an aperture of an accessory. The anchor has a base part movable between a locked position where the anchor is secured to the base and an unlocked position where the anchor is free from the base. An accessory part is operatively connected to the base part. The accessory part is adapted to selectively connect at least partially to a brim of the aperture of the accessory for bracing at least partially the accessory to the base when the anchor is in the locked position. The anchor has other features. A vehicle having an anchor and an attachment base assembly is also presented.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. An anchor for selectively connecting to a base, the base defining an aperture having a hexagonal shape, the anchor comprising: a case having a flange, the flange having a hexagonal contour, the hexagonal contour being congruent with the hexagonal shape of the aperture of the base such that the anchor can be inserted into the base; a latch movably connected to the case for retaining the case on the base; and a lever connected to the latch for moving the latch relative to the case about an axis between at least a first position and a second position, in the first position of the latch, the anchor being locked to the base, in the second position of the latch, the anchor being removable from the base. 2. The anchor of claim 1 , wherein the contour of the flange is chamfered. 3. The anchor of claim 1 , wherein the flange includes an upper part and a lower part, the lower part having the hexagonal contour, the upper part having a pentagonal contour, the pentagonal contour being contained within the hexagonal contour. 4. The anchor of claim 3 , wherein the contour of the lower part is chamfered. 5. The anchor of claim 4 , wherein the case also has at least two tabs extending from the lower part, the latch extending between the at least two tabs; and wherein a shape of a contour of the at least two tabs is congruent with the hexagonal shape of the aperture of the base. 6. The anchor of claim 3 , wherein: the flange is a middle flange; the case also has an upper flange; the upper flange having a contour; and the contours of the lower and upper parts of the middle flange are contained within a contour of the upper flange. 7. The anchor of claim 6 , wherein: the lever is connected to a first end of the latch; the latch includes at least one cam extending from a second end of the latch, the second end being opposite the first end; the at least one cam is generally perpendicular to the axis; the at least one cam having a contour; in the first position, the contour of the at least one cam extends outside of the contour of the lower part; and in the second position, the contour of the at least one cam is received within the contour of the lower part. 8. The anchor of claim 1 , further comprising at least one connector, each of the at least one connector being defined by a corresponding aperture defined in the case. 9. The anchor of claim 1 , further comprising: at least two first apertures defined in the case and defining at least two first connectors, the at least two first apertures being defined on opposite sides of the case; and at least one second aperture defined in a top of the case and defining at least one second connector. 10. An anchor and a base assembly comprising: a base having at least one base aperture; and an anchor selectively operatively connected to the base, the anchor being selectively inserted at least partially into the at least one base aperture, the anchor having: a case; and a latch movably connected to the case for retaining the case on the base, the latch includes at least two cams, at least a portion of the latch being movable relative to the case between at least a first position and a second position, when the anchor is inserted at least partially in the at least one base aperture: in the first position of the latch, a contour of the at least two cams extends outside of a contour of the at least one base aperture and the anchor is locked to the base, in the second position of the latch, the contour of the at least two cams is received within the contour of the at least one base aperture and the anchor is removable from the base. 11. The assembly of claim 10 , wherein: the at least one base aperture has a first shape; a portion of the anchor adapted to be inserted into the at least one base aperture has a second shape; and the first and second shapes are the same. 12. The assembly of claim 11 , wherein the first and second shapes are irregular polygons. 13. The assembly of claim 12 , wherein the first and second shapes are irregular hexagons. 14. The assembly of claim 10 , wherein: the at least one base aperture has a shape of an irregular hexagon; and a portion of the anchor adapted to be inserted into the at least one base aperture has a shape of an irregular pentagon. 15. The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the anchor further comprises a lever connected to the latch for moving the latch relative to the case about an axis between at least the first position and the second position; wherein the anchor is adapted to connect an accessory to the base by being inserted into an accessory aperture defined in the accessory; and wherein the lever is adapted to pivot about the axis away from the accessory when moving the latch from the first position to the second position. 16. The assembly of claim 15 , wherein the anchor is adapted such that the anchor can only be inserted in a single orientation in the accessory aperture to connect the accessory to the base.
