Provided is a liquid injecting apparatus equipped with a liquid injecting head, which is mounted on a carriage and moved reciprocally in a widthwise direction of a target, and a valve unit, which is mounted on the carriage to be supplied with liquid via a supply passage from a liquid retainer and to supply liquid to the liquid injecting head. The valve unit has a pressure chamber connected to the liquid retainer via the supply passage; a valve, which opens or closes the supply passage to supply liquid to the pressure chamber; and a flexible film member, which is displaced based on a negative pressure generated as liquid in the pressure chamber decreases to thereby operate the valve.

The invention claimed is: 1. A valve unit which is removably connected to a liquid ejecting apparatus, the valve unit comprising: a supply chamber communicating with an atmosphere via an air vent; a pressure chamber provided downstream from the supply chamber, the pressure chamber including a flexible part formed by a flexible member; and a valve configured to open and close a passage which is provided between the supply chamber and the pressure chamber, wherein the valve is configured to open the passage in response to an internal pressure of the pressure chamber being a negative pressure relative to an atmospheric pressure. 2. The valve unit according to claim 1 , further comprising: a first urging member disposed in the supply chamber, the first urging member urging the valve in a direction to close the passage. 3. The valve unit according to claim 1 , further comprising: a second urging member disposed in the pressure chamber, the second urging member urging the flexible member in a direction to increase a volume of the pressure chamber. 4. The valve unit according to claim 1 , further comprising: a pressure-receiving member disposed adjacent to the flexible member. 5. The valve unit according to claim 1 , further comprising: a flow path communicating between the air vent and the supply chamber, the flow path including a groove flow path covered by a film member. 6. The valve unit according to claim 1 , wherein the valve is configured to open the passage in response to the flexible member deforming in a direction to reduce a volume of the pressure chamber. 7. The valve unit according to claim 1 , wherein the pressure chamber communicates with a liquid ejecting head for ejecting liquid in a state where the valve unit is connected to the liquid ejecting apparatus.
