A catheter assembly includes a urinary catheter and a package provided to contain the catheter. The catheter has a mid-section connected between a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end of the catheter is adapted for insertion into a urinary canal and the distal end of the catheter is connected to a seal. The package includes a proximal compartment section that is removable from a distal section of the package to provide an outlet in the distal section of the package. The catheter is adapted to move relative to the distal section of the package such that (a) the seal at the distal end of the catheter slides relative to the distal section of the package and (b) at least the mid-section of the catheter is movable through the outlet in the distal section of the package.

What is claimed is: 1. A catheter assembly comprising: a urinary catheter having a mid-section connected between a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the urinary catheter is adapted for insertion into a urinary canal and the distal end of the catheter is connected to a seal; and a package provided to contain the urinary catheter, the package comprising a proximal compartment section that is attached to and detachable from a distal section of the package, the proximal compartment section is removable from the distal section of the package to provide an outlet in the distal section of the package; wherein the urinary catheter is adapted to move relative to the distal section of the package such that: (a) the seal at the distal end of the urinary catheter slides relative to the distal section of the package and the seal provides a substantially liquid tight interface between the urinary catheter and the distal section of the package while the urinary catheter is being projected from the package; and (b) at least the mid-section of the urinary catheter is movable through the outlet in the distal section of the package. 2. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the urinary catheter is fabricated from a hydrophilic material. 3. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the urinary catheter is a lubricated urinary catheter. 4. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least a section of the urinary catheter has a hydrophilic surface. 5. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein at least a section of the urinary catheter is treated with a liquid swelling medium. 6. The catheter assembly of claim 5 , wherein the liquid swelling medium is contained in the package. 7. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the urinary catheter is adapted for insertion into a female urinary canal and has a length in a range between 50-90 mm, and the package is sized to accommodate the length of the urinary catheter. 8. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the urinary catheter is adapted for insertion into a male urinary canal and has a length in a range between 180-250 mm, and the package is sized to accommodate the length of the urinary catheter. 9. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the package is a gas impermeable package. 10. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the outlet is formed in a proximal end of the distal section of the package. 11. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein the package is a tubular member and the seal is a ring shaped member arranged between an inner surface of the tubular member and an outer surface of the urinary catheter. 12. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , wherein a distal end of the distal section of the package is provided with a drain, the drain is provided to allow urine that flows through the urinary catheter to exit the package. 13. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a weakened tear line formed between the proximal compartment section and the distal section of the package; wherein the weakened tear line is configured to separate to allow the proximal compartment section to be removed from the distal section of the package. 14. The catheter assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a coupled connection formed between the proximal compartment section and the distal section of the package; wherein the coupled connection is configured to allow the proximal compartment section to be separated from the distal section of the package by twisting.
