Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposed to each other with a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate has a plurality of drain signal lines and a plurality of gate signal lines, and a plurality of pixel regions are defined by the drain signal lines and the gate signal lines. Each of the pixel regions includes a first electrode having a plurality of strip-like portions extending in an extension direction of the drain signal lines, the strip-like portions having at least one bent portion so that extension directions of each two parts of the strip-like portions separated by the at least one bent portion are different from each other, and a second electrode formed between the first substrate and the first electrode, and being overlapped with the strip-like portions in plan view.

What is claimed is: 1. A liquid crystal display device comprising: a first transparent insulating substrate; a second transparent insulating substrate arranged opposite to the first substrate at a distance; a liquid crystal layer having liquid crystal molecules interposed between the first and second substrates; a plurality of gate bus lines and a plurality of data bus lines formed on the first transparent substrate, a plurality of unit pixels are defined by the gate bus lines and the data bus lines; a counter voltage line arranged in each of the unit pixels; a thin film transistor formed at each of positions corresponding to each of intersections of the gate bus lines and the data bus lines; a first electrode made from a transparent conductor material and arranged in each of unit pixels; and a second electrode also made from a transparent conductor material, arranged in each of unit pixels and under the first electrode, insulated from the first electrode, an electric field in the liquid crystal layer being generated between the first electrode and the second electrode; wherein the counter voltage line extends so as to divide each of the pixel regions into two regions; wherein the first electrode has a plurality of slits and at least one of the slits has a bending portion overlapped with the counter voltage line; wherein the first electrode or the second electrode is electrically connected to the thin film transistor. 2. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter voltage line extends along the data bus lines and at a middle of each of the pixel regions in an extending direction of the gate bus lines. 3. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the slits has the bending portion at a middle of each of the pixel regions in an extending direction of the gate bus lines. 4. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein an aligned angle of the liquid crystal molecules corresponding to a first region of the two regions and an aligned angle of the liquid crystal molecules corresponding to a second region of the two regions are different when the electric field in the liquid crystal layer is generated between the first electrode and the second electrode. 5. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter voltage line is made from a metallic material disposed in a same layer as the gate bus lines. 6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the counter voltage line is made from a metallic material disposed in a same layer as the data bus lines. 7. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first electrode is a pixel electrode and the second electrode is a common electrode. 8. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the slits are symmetrically inclined about the counter voltage line. 9. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein portions of the slits corresponding to a first region of the two regions and portions of the slits corresponding to a second region of the two regions are symmetrically arranged about the counter voltage line.
