A capturing device includes an image sensor that generates an image signal by performing photoelectric conversion for light from a subject, a control unit that generates a setting value for setting a range where an image resulting from the image signal is cut, based on a first instruction input from a user, a setting value storage unit that stores the setting value generated by the control unit, an image conversion unit that reads the setting value from the setting value storage unit, and cuts a specific region specified by the setting value from the image and enlarges the cut region, when there is a second instruction input from the user, and an output unit that converts a signal of the image cut and enlarged by the image conversion unit into an image signal of a predetermined format and outputs the converted image signal.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A signal processing device for an automotive camera system for use in a vehicle movable in a travelling direction, comprising; a setting value storage unit configured to store a setting value for enlarging an overall image generated by an image sensor; an image conversion unit configured to generate a specific region of the overall image in response to an input instruction, the specific region including a predetermined portion of the vehicle, the image conversion unit being configured to enlarge the specific region of the overall image by an amount determined by the stored setting value; and an output unit configured to output an image signal of the specific region enlarged by the image conversion unit to a display unit operable to display an image resulting from the image signal, wherein the output unit outputs an image signal of the overall image generated by the image sensor for displaying on the display unit the overall image including the specific region and the predetermined portion of the vehicle included therein; and wherein an enlarged image is not output when the automotive camera system which includes the signal processing device is changed over to a powered on state and the vehicle is conditioned to be driven in a travelling direction. 2. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , wherein the output unit outputs a default image signal with minimum magnification as the image signal for providing overall comprehension when the signal processing device is powered on. 3. The signal processing device according to claim 2 further comprising a default data storage unit configured to store default data for the default image signal, wherein the default data storage unit has two or more regions for storing the default data. 4. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , wherein the setting value storage unit is configured to store plural setting values for specifying plural specific regions. 5. The signal processing device according to claim 4 , wherein the plural setting values stored in the setting value storage unit are supplied to the image conversion unit, after a predetermined time from receiving the instruction input, depending on an input number of the instruction input. 6. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , further comprising a display control unit configured to control a display unit to display a frame having a size and a position that varies depending on a user input, and wherein the setting value is based on the size and the position of the frame. 7. The signal processing device according to claim 6 , wherein the display control unit controls the display unit to display the frame on the display unit where the image resulting from the image signal for providing overall comprehension is displayed. 8. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , wherein the setting value comprises an X axis coordinate and a Y axis coordinate of the specific region. 9. The signal processing device according to claim 6 , wherein the display control unit generates one or more of a surrounding frame surrounding a periphery of the specific region and a warning message for warning that an image displayed as the specific region is an enlarged image supplied to the output unit. 10. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , further comprising a display control unit configured to control a display unit on which an image resulting from the image signal is displayed, and to control the display unit to display an image as the specific region on a sub-screen of picture-in-picture. 11. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , further comprising a display control unit configured to control a display unit on which an image resulting from the image signal is displayed, and to control the display unit to display an image as the specific region on a full screen of picture-in-picture and to display the overall image including the specific region on a sub-screen. 12. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , further comprising a view mode display timer triggered when the image conversion unit enlarges the specific region, and wherein the image conversion unit is enabled to read a default value for specifying a default image at a point of time when the view mode display timer times out. 13. The signal processing device according to claim 1 , further comprising; the image sensor that generates the image signal by performing photoelectric conversion of light from a subject. 14. The signal processing device according to claim 13 , configured for use in a car body or a ship body, and wherein the image sensor generates the image signal by performing photoelectric conversion of light from subjects around the car body or the ship body. 15. The signal processing device according to claim 14 wherein the output unit outputs the image signal of the overall image which is adjusted by the image conversion unit to a degree of magnification that a zooming ratio of the image enables recognition by a user of the travelling direction of the car or the ship when the signal processing device is powered on. 16. A capturing system for use in a vehicle movable in a travelling direction, comprising: a capturing unit including an image sensor; a setting value storage unit configured to store a setting value for enlarging an overall image generated by the image sensor; an image conversion unit configured to generate a specific region of the overall image in response to an input instruction, the specific region including a predetermined portion of the vehicle, the image conversion unit being configured to enlarge the specific region of the overall image by an amount determined by the stored setting value; an output unit configured to output an image signal of the specific region enlarged by the image conversion unit to a display unit operable to display an image resulting from the image signal; wherein the output unit outputs an image signal of the overall image generated by the image sensor for displaying on the display unit the overall image including the specific region and the predetermined portion of the vehicle included therein; and wherein an enlarged image is not output when the capturing system is changed over to a powered on state and the vehicle is conditioned to be driven in a travelling direction. 17. A capturing system according to claim 16 , wherein the display unit includes a touch panel, and a display section of the display unit and the user input unit are integrally formed as the touch panel. 18. A capturing system according to claim 16 , wherein the display control unit is configured to convert and synthesize a) an image resulting from a signal of the image cropped and enlarged by the image conversion unit and b) a default image resulting from the image signal generated by the image sensor to output the image to a picture-in-picture screen, and wherein the output unit converts an image signal converted and synthesized by the display control unit into an image signal of a predetermined format and outputs the converted image signal in the predetermined format. 19. A signal processing method comprising the steps of: generating a setting value for setting a specific region in an overall image resulting from an image signal generated by an image sensor, based on a first instruction input, the specific region including a predetermined portion of the vehicle; storing the generated setting value for enlarging an image generated by the image sensor; enlarging
