Official abstract text for this publication.
There is provided an output circuit for supplying an output current to a load coupled to an output terminal in response to an input signal. The output circuit includes an output transistor for supplying the output current to the output terminal, an output-drive circuit for driving the output transistor, a constant-current limiting circuit for generating a current control signal for limiting the output current to a predetermined current value, and a control circuit for implementing a control such that the output current is controlled on the basis of the current control signal if a voltage at the output terminal is at a predetermined voltage, or less after the input signal is supplied while the output transistor is driven by the output-drive circuit if the voltage at the output terminal is in excess of the predetermined voltage.

What is claimed is: 1. A Light Emitting Diode (LED) drive circuit, comprising: an input port; an output port coupled to an LED circuit; an output circuit that outputs a first current or a second current to the output port, the first current having a predetermined current value and the second current having a current value higher than the predetermined current value; and a short-circuit detection circuit that detects a short circuit in the LED circuit, wherein the output circuit outputs the first current when the LED drive circuit receives an input signal from the input port, and wherein the output circuit switches to output the second current when the short-circuit detection circuit does not detect the short circuit after the first current is outputted. 2. The LED drive circuit according to claim 1 , wherein the output circuit outputs the first current when the short-circuit detection circuit detects the short circuit. 3. The LED drive circuit according to claim 1 , wherein the short-circuit detection circuit detects the short circuit when an output voltage of the LED drive circuit is lower than a first short-circuit detection voltage. 4. The LED drive circuit according to claim 1 , wherein the output circuit outputs the first current when the short-circuit detection circuit detects the short circuit after the second current is outputted. 5. The LED drive circuit according to claim 4 , wherein the short-circuit detection circuit detects the short circuit when an output voltage of the LED drive circuit is lower than a first short-circuit detection voltage after the first current is outputted, wherein the short-circuit detection circuit detects the short circuit when the output voltage of the LED drive circuit is lower than a second short-circuit detection voltage after the second current is outputted. 6. The LED drive circuit according to claim 5 , wherein the second short-circuit detection voltage is lower than the first short-circuit detection voltage. 7. The LED drive circuit according to claim 3 , wherein the short-circuit detection circuit includes a comparator that compares the output voltage with the first short-circuit detection voltage. 8. The LED drive circuit according to claim 5 , wherein the short-circuit detection circuit includes a first comparator that compares the output voltage with the first short-circuit detection voltage and a second comparator that compares the output voltage with the second short-circuit detection voltage.
