Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments of mechanisms for dynamic media content type streaming management for mobile devices are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the mobile device may receive selection input pertaining to generating output from a media file containing at least two of audio data, video data, and closed-captioning data, the selection input selecting at least one of audio, video, and closed-captioning to be output during play of the media content. In some embodiments, the mobile device may generate an audio output as a signal in response to the selection input including audio. In some embodiments, the mobile device may generate a video output as a signal in response to the selection input including video. In some embodiments, the mobile device may generate a closed-captioning output as a signal in response to selection input including closed-captioning.

What is claimed is: 1. A mobile device, comprising: one or more processors; a network interface device; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving, from a user, a selection input pertaining to rendering output from media content including a plurality of elementary content types, an elementary content type being audio data, video data, or closed-captioning data, the received selection input designating a proper subset of the plurality of elementary content types to be output during play of the media content by the mobile device; transmitting, to a media content provider via the network interface device, the received selection input; receiving, from the media content provider via the network interface device, the media content adapted to contain only a proper subset of the plurality of elementary content types as designated in the received selection input, wherein the media content has been adapted, at least partially, by the media content provider based on network data throughput available to the mobile device; rendering an audio output as a signal in response to the adapted media content including audio data, the signal corresponding to the audio data stored in the adapted media content and from which auditory waves can be generated; rendering a video output as a signal in response to the adapted media content including video data, the signal corresponding to the video data stored in the adapted media content and from which video images can be generated; rendering a closed-captioning output as a signal in response to the adapted media content including closed-captioning data, the signal corresponding to the closed-captioning data stored in the adapted media content and from which closed-captioning text can be generated; and aggregating the relevant outputs and generating the associated auditory waves, video images, and closed-captioning text. 2. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the adapted media content is received as a stream of data. 3. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the media content is adapted according to a specified policy. 4. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the media content is adapted based on a property of the mobile device. 5. The mobile device of claim 3 , wherein the policy is specific to a user of the mobile device. 6. The mobile device of claim 5 , wherein the policy includes output mode settings for streaming events of interest within the media content. 7. The mobile device of claim 5 , wherein the policy includes default output mode settings based on the type of the media content. 8. The mobile device of claim 5 , wherein the received selection input is stored into the policy for use in subsequent output generation from media content. 9. A method performed by a mobile device, the method comprising: receiving selection input pertaining to rendering output from a media content including a plurality of elementary content types, an elementary content type being audio data, video data, or closed-captioning data, the received selection input designating a proper subset of the plurality of elementary content types to be output during play of the media content by the mobile device; transmitting, to a media content provider via the network interface device, the received selection input; receiving, from the media content provider via the network interface device, the media content adapted to contain only a proper subset of the plurality of elementary content types as designated in the received selection input, wherein the media content has been adapted, at least partially, by the media content provider based on network data throughput available to the mobile device; rendering, in response to the adapted media content including audio data, an audio output as a signal, the signal corresponding to the audio data stored in the adapted media content and from which auditory waves can be generated; rendering, in response to the adapted media content including video data, a video output as a signal, the signal corresponding to the video data stored in the adapted media content and from which video images can be generated; rendering, in response to the adapted media content including closed-captioning data, a closed-captioning output as a signal, the signal corresponding to the closed-captioning data stored in the adapted media content and from which closed-captioning text can be generated; and aggregating the relevant outputs and generating the associated waves, images, and text. 10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: receiving the adapted media content as a stream of data. 11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the adapting of the media content is performed according to a specified policy. 12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the adapting of the media content is based on a property of the mobile device. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the policy is specific to a user of the mobile device. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the policy includes output mode settings for streaming events of interest within the media content. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the policy includes default output mode settings based on the type of the media content. 16. The method of claim 13 , further comprising: storing the received selection input into the policy for use in subsequent output generation from media content. 17. A media content provider, comprising: at least one network interface device; one or more processors; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving, from a mobile device via the at least one network interface device, selection data pertaining to adapting data output from a media content including a plurality of elementary content types, an elementary content type being audio, video, or closed-captioning, the received selection data designating the media content to be adapted to include a proper subset of the plurality of elementary content types; generating an audio data output in response to the received selection data designating audio, the audio data output corresponding to audio data stored in the media content and from which auditory waves can be generated; generating a video data output in response to the received selection data designating video, the video data output corresponding to video data stored in the media content and from which video images can be generated; generating a closed-captioning data output in response to the received selection data designating closed-captioning, the closed-captioning data output corresponding to closed-captioning data stored in the media content and from which closed-captioning text can be generated; and transmitting, to the mobile device via the at least one network interface device, the respective generated data outputs, wherein at least one generated data output has been adapted, at least partially, by the media content provider based on network data throughput available to the mobile device. 18. The media content provider of claim 17 , wherein the media content is adapted according to a specified policy available to the media content provider. 19. The media content provider of claim 17 , wherein the media content is adapted based on a property of the mobile device. 20. The media content provider of claim 18 , wherein the policy includes a data representati
