Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In one aspect, a computing apparatus is configured to allow merchants to initiate offers in an offer campaign based on a spending pattern specified by the merchant, such as the lack of transactions in a predetermined period of time of the day, in a recent time period, and/or in a particular merchant category. The offer campaign can be adjusted between offer delivery/announcement and fulfillment for a limited time period. The benefit of a further purchase may be announced via a message scheduled to be transmitted in response to an event identifying the arrival of a particular time instance, in response to a qualification notification of a transaction satisfying the requirements of a purchase event required in the offer campaign, or in response to the detection of a required spending pattern.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: providing a computing apparatus comprising: a transaction handler to generate transaction data from processing transactions of a first user, wherein a spending pattern of the first user is determined based on the transaction data, a data warehouse configured to store records to keep track of milestones for the first user as a transaction history of the first user is monitored in real time, and a portal configured to allow a first computing device of a merchant to specify one or more predetermined time instances for evaluation of the spending pattern, and further configured to receive communications from the first computing device regarding programming of computing system functions for a campaign; receiving, via the portal, a communication reference functions for the first user; monitoring, in real time by the transaction handler, the transaction history; receiving, in the computing apparatus, a set of records for the campaign, each record identifying at least one condition for matching an event in the campaign with a user participating in the campaign; monitoring, by the computing apparatus, events relevant to the campaign in accordance with the set of records; in response to receiving an authorization request from a transaction terminal, detecting, by the transaction handler, a first purchase satisfying a first record of the set of records; and in response to detection of the first purchase: transmitting, by the computing apparatus, using the communication reference, a message in accordance with the first record to cause display in a first user interface of a second computing device of the first user to announce a benefit to be provided to the first user in response to a second purchase satisfying a second record of the set of records, and transmitting an electronic file to the second computing device to enable the benefit for use by the second computing device in the second purchase; receiving, from the second computing device, first data including data from a cookie stored at the second computing device; selecting, from the data warehouse, based on the first data, a user profile for the first user; during execution of the campaign, a modifying programming; and in response to the modifying of the programming, and based on the user profile: transmitting an updated electronic file to the second computing device to modify the benefit as controlled by the programming modification, and causing adjustment in placement of a display associated with the updated electronic file in the first user interface. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the benefit to be provided is based at least in part on a benefit provided in response to the first purchase. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the benefit to be provided is to increase the benefit to be provided in response to the first purchase. 4. A method, comprising: providing a computing apparatus comprising: a transaction handler to generate transaction data from processing transactions of a first user, wherein a spending pattern of the first user is determined based on the transaction data, a data warehouse configured to store records to keep track of milestones for the first user as a transaction history of the first user is monitored in real time, and a portal configured to allow a first computing device of a merchant to specify one or more predetermined time instances for evaluation of the spending pattern, and further configured to receive communications from the first computing device regarding programming of computing system functions for a campaign; receiving, via the portal, a communication reference for the first user; monitoring, in real time by the transaction handler, the transaction history; receiving, in the computing apparatus, a set of records for the campaign, each record identifying at least one condition for matching an event in the campaign with a user participating in the campaign; monitoring, by the computing apparatus, events relevant to the campaign in accordance with the set of records; in response to receiving an authorization request from a transaction terminal, detecting, by the transaction handler, satisfaction of a spending pattern by the first user as identified in a first record of the set of records; and in response to detection of the satisfaction of the spending pattern: transmitting, by the computing apparatus, using the communication reference, a message to the first user in accordance with the first record to cause display in a first user interface of a second computing device of the first user to announce a benefit to be provided in accordance with a second record of the set of records, and transmitting an electronic file to the second computing device to enable the benefit for use by the second computing device in a future transaction for a second purchase processed by the transaction handler; receiving, from the second computing device, first data including data from a cookie stored at the second computing device; selecting, from the data warehouse, based on the first data, a user profile for the first user; during execution of the campaign, modifying programming; and in response to the modifying of the programming, and based on the user profile: transmitting an updated electronic file to the second computing device to modify the benefit as controlled by the programming modification, and causing adjustment in placement of a display associated with the updated electronic file in the first user interface. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first user satisfies a set of prerequisite conditions as identified by one or more additional records to qualify for being matched with the spending pattern. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the spending pattern is based on transactions of the first user being lower than a threshold in at least one of: a predetermined time period of a day, a merchant category, or a predefined time period. 7. A system, comprising: a transaction handler to generate transaction data from processing transactions of a first user, wherein a spending pattern of the first user is determined based on the transaction data; a data warehouse configured to store records to keep track of milestones for the first user as a transaction history of the first user is monitored in real time; a portal configured to allow a first computing device of a merchant to specify one or more predetermined time instances for evaluation of the spending pattern, and further configured to receive communications from the first computing device regarding programming of computing system functions for a campaign; at least one processor; and memory storing instructions configured to instruct the at least one processor to: receive, via the portal, a communication reference for the first user; monitor, in real time by the transaction handler, the transaction history; receive a set of records for the campaign, each record identifying at least one condition for matching an event in the campaign with a user participating in the campaign; monitor events relevant to the campaign in accordance with the set of records; in response to receiving an authorization request from a transaction terminal, detect, by the transaction handler, a first purchase of the first user; in response to detection of the first purchase: transmit, using the communication reference, a message in accordance with a first record of the set of records to cause display in a first user interface of a second computing device of the first user to announce a benefit to be provided in accordance with a second record of the set of records, and transmit an electronic file to the second computing device to enable the benefit for use by the second comput
