A refrigerator includes a cabinet having a storage chamber, a main door pivotably mounted to the cabinet while including an opening provided at an inside of the main door, and a stepped portion provided around the opening, a sub-storage chamber mounted at the inside of the main door, a sub-door mounted to the main door, to allow a user to have access to the sub-storage chamber, the sub-door having opposite side surfaces with front portions protruding forwards of a front surface of the main door while having a greater width than the opening and stepped portion between the front portions of the side surfaces, to cover the stepped portion by the side surfaces, and a hinge pivotably mounted to the main door and coupled to the sub-door while being bent at an intermediate portion thereof, to pivotably support the sub-door with respect to the main door.

What is claimed is: 1. A refrigerator comprising; a cabinet having a storage chamber; a main door having a front opening and configured to open or close the storage chamber; a sub-door having a front surface, a rear surface, and an edge surface, the sub-door configured to open or close the front opening; a handle groove recessed from the edge surface of the sub-door and configured to allow a user to pull the sub-door; a groove portion formed at one side of the handle groove; axial grooves formed at opposite sides of the handle groove; a lever member having pivot axial protrusions configured to engage with the axial grooves, the pivot axial protrusions protruding from first and second side surfaces of the lever member, and configured to pivot within the handle groove; a lever projected from the first side surface of the lever member at a position separated toward the groove portion from the pivot axial protrusion protruding from the first side surface of the lever member, the lever configured to rotate about the pivot axial protrusions, the lever and the pivot axial protrusion protruding from the first side surface of the lever member having longitudinal dimensions extending parallel to each other in a same direction from the first side surface of the lever member; a hook member having an extension portion which contacts the lever and a hook which is projected from a rear surface of the sub-door, the hook member configured to be rotated by the lever; an engagement groove provided on a front surface of the main door and configured to engage with the hook; and an elastic member disposed within the groove portion and configured to provide an elastic force to the hook member to be engaged in the engagement groove. 2. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein a sub-storage compartment is provided at the man door and plurality of racks are arranged in the sub-storage compartment. 3. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the handle groove is formed horizontally at a top surface of the sub-door, the pivot axial protrusions of the lever member are mounted horizontally to be inserted into the axial grooves. 4. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the groove portion has a greater depth than that of the handle groove. 5. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the extension portion of the hook member is positioned in the groove portion. 6. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the hook member comprises a pivot axis, an upper extension portion extending upwards from the pivot axis and positioned in the groove portion, and a rear extension portion extending rearwards from the pivot axis, and the hook is formed at an end of the rear extension portion. 7. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , further comprising a bracket mounted in the groove portion and having a groove in which a pivot axis of the hook member is mounted and a hole through which the hook passes. 8. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the pivot axial protrusion provided at the second side surface of the lever member is pivotably supported. 9. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein a magnetic gasket is mounted on the rear surface of the sub-door, and the handle groove, the lever member, and the hook member are positioned at an outside of the magnetic gasket. 10. The refrigerator according to claim 9 , wherein the magnetic gasket has a magnetic member provided therein, and a metal member or magnetic member is provided on a front surface of the main door. 11. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the handle groove is formed long in a direction parallel to the front surface of the sub-door and positioned from the front surface of the sub-door, and the lever member is arranged long in the handle groove in the direction parallel to the front surface of the sub-door, one surface of the lever member faces a front surface of the handle groove. 12. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the lever member is thinner than half of the thickness of the handle groove, and the lever member is arranged close to a front surface of the handle groove. 13. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the lever member is mounted in the handle groove by the pivot axial protrusions and is pivoted toward the front surface of the sub-door. 14. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the axial grooves are formed at a lower portion of the handle groove and the pivot axial protrusions are mounted in the axial grooves. 15. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the lever has a surface contacting with the extension portion of the hook member, and the hook member is pivoted by pivoting the lever. 16. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the main door has a front surface, a rear surface, a top surface, a bottom surface, a left surface, and a right surface, the sub-door has the front surface, the rear surface, a top surface, a bottom surface, a left surface, and a right surface, and a handle is provided at a side surface of the main door or the sub-door so as to open the main door and the sub-door together, the handle taking the form of a groove. 17. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the elastic member is configured to support one side of the hook member and to return the hook member to an original position thereof when an external force to the lever member is removed. 18. The refrigerator according to claim 1 , wherein the elastic member is mounted between the extension portion of the hook member and a front surface of the handle groove and is configured to support one side of the hook member and to return the hook member to an original position thereof when an external force to the lever member is removed. 19. The refrigerator according: to claim 1 , further comprising: a first upper hinge and a first lower hinge mounted on an upper part of the cabinet and a lower part to pivotably support the main door; and a second upper hinge and a second lower hinge mounted on an upper part of the main door and a lower part to pivotably support the sub-door. 20. The refrigerator according to claim 19 , wherein the handle groove is provided on a top surface of the sub-door at a position opposite the second upper hinge. 21. The refrigerator according to claim 19 , the main door further comprising a stepped portion provided around the opening. 22. The refrigerator according to claim 21 , wherein the front surface of the sub-door protrudes forwards of the front surface of the main door, the sub-door has opposite side surfaces with front portions and has a greater width than the stepped portion to cover the stepped portion, and rear portions of the opposite side surfaces have a shape corresponding to those of the opening and stepped portion of the main door. 23. The refrigerator according to claim 21 , wherein each of the side surfaces of the sub-door comprises: a first surface provided inside the stepped portion while extending forwards from a back surface of the sub-door; a second surface extending inclinedly from the first surface outwards and forwards of the stepped portion; and a third surface disposed outwards and forwards of the stepped portion while extending forwards from a front end of the second surface. 24.
