An asphaltic sheet comprising an asphaltic component including an asphalt binder and expandable graphite.
Opening claim text (preview).
What is claimed is: 1. An asphaltic sheet comprising: an asphaltic component including an asphalt binder, expandable graphite, and colemanite, where said asphaltic component includes from about 1 to about 30 parts by weight expandable graphite per 100 parts by weight asphalt, where said expandable graphite has an onset temperature of at least 160° C., and where said asphaltic component includes first and second planar surfaces; a release film removably secured to said first planar surface; and a polymeric sheet laminated to said second planar surface. 2. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the expandable graphite is dispersed throughout the asphalt binder. 3. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the expandable graphite is located within one or more highly concentrated regions of the sheet. 4. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the expandable graphite is located within one or more highly concentrated regions of the sheet and where the expandable graphite is dispersed throughout the asphalt binder. 5. The asphaltic sheet of claim 3 , where the one or more highly concentrated regions of the sheet is embedded between layers of asphalt binder. 6. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the asphaltic component further includes a polymeric modifier dispersed within the asphalt binder. 7. The asphaltic sheet of claim 6 , where the polymeric modifier is selected from the group consisting of polybutadiene, polyisoprene, styrene-butadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene block copolymer, styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer, random styrene-isoprene, styrene-isoprene block copolymer, styrene-isoprene-butadiene block copolymer, random styrene-isoprene-butadiene, styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer, and chloroprene rubber. 8. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the asphaltic sheet includes a reinforcing textile. 9. The asphaltic sheet of claim 3 , where the sheet includes a polymeric sheet disposed on said second planar surface, and where at least one highly concentrated region of expandable graphite is located adjacent said polymeric sheet. 10. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where the sheet includes a polymeric sheet disposed on said second planar surface, and where the polymeric sheet is a polypropylene sheet. 11. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where said asphaltic component includes from about 3 to about 20 parts by weight expandable graphite per 100 parts by weight asphalt binder. 12. The asphaltic sheet of claim 11 , where said expandable graphite has an onset temperature of at least 180° C. 13. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where said asphaltic component includes from about 0.5 to about 40 parts by weight colemanite per 100 parts by weight asphalt binder. 14. The asphaltic sheet of claim 1 , where said asphaltic component includes from about 3 to about 20 parts by weight colemanite per 100 parts by weight asphalt binder. 15. The asphaltic sheet of claim 14 , where said asphaltic component includes from about 3 to about 20 parts by weight expandable graphite per 100 parts by weight asphalt binder.
