An exemplary proton conductor according to the present disclosure has a perovskite-type crystal structure expressed by the compositional formula A a B 1-x B′ x O 3-δ . The A element is an alkaline-earth metal and is contained in a range of 0.4<a<0.9, where the a value represents a mole fraction of this element, and the B′ element is a trivalent group 3 or group 13 element and is contained in a range of 0.2<x<0.6, where the x value represents a mole fraction of this element.

What is claimed is: 1. A proton conductor having a perovskite-type crystal structure expressed by the compositional formula A a B 1-x B′ x O 3-δ , wherein: the proton conductor is composed of a single phase which is substantially uniform in composition and crystal structure, A is at least one selected from among alkaline-earth metals, B is a tetravalent group 4 transition metal or Ce, and B′ is a trivalent group 3 or group 13 element, where 0.4<a<0.9 and 0.2<x<0.6 are satisfied. 2. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein: A is at least one selected from among Ba and Sr, B is Zr, and B′ is Y or In. 3. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein: 0.4<a<0.8, and 0.3<x<0.6. 4. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein: 0.4<a<0.8, and 0.4<x<0.6. 5. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein: 0.4<a<0.6, and 0.4<x<0.6. 6. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein: 0.4<a<0.5, and 0.4<x<0.6. 7. The proton conductor of claim 1 , wherein an activation energy of proton conduction in a temperature range of not less than 100° C. and not more than 500° C. is 0.1 eV or less. 8.
