What is claimed is: 1. A method of winding a layered structure comprising steps of: a) rotating a winding drum, the winding drum having a circumference; b) transferring a first web structure from a first lay down station to a first winding station of the winding drum; c) contacting the web structure with a winding mandrel; d) contacting the web structure with a web assembly hold down element, wherein the web assembly hold down element is disposed adjacent to and extends along a portion of the circumference of the winding drum; e) winding the web structure by rotating the winding mandrel; f) fixing a trailing edge of the web structure relative to the wound structure; g) discharging the wound structure from the winding drum, wherein the first lay down station and the web assembly hold down element are provided by different structure. 2. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of separating a portion of the web structure from the remainder of the web structure. 3. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of concurrently winding a plurality of web structures. 4. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of attaching the first web to a second web prior to winding the web structure. 5. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of overwrapping the wound structure. 6. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of laying the web structure down into a web track. 7. The method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of laying down a second web structure in a face to face relationship with the first web structure.
