Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A carrier device ( 10 ) is for handling a lens ( 12 ) which is received therein and which has a lateral edge ( 21 ), in particular for handling an eyeglass lens ( 12 ) in a machining or finishing process. The carrier device ( 10 ) comprises a main body ( 14 ) and has a connecting member ( 24 ) for releasably connecting the main body ( 14 ) to the received lens ( 12 ). The connecting member ( 24 ) forms, with the main body ( 14 ), a protective cover ( 15 ) surrounding the lateral edge ( 21 ) of the received lens ( 12 ) and a surface ( 30 ) of the received lens ( 12 ) directed toward the main body ( 14 ). The connecting member ( 24 ) is releasably connected to the main body ( 14 ).

What is claimed is: 1. A carrier device for handling a lens received therein, the lens having first and second lens surfaces and a lateral peripheral edge delimiting said first and second lens surfaces and defining an edge surface extending between said first and second lens surfaces; the carrier device comprising: a main body; a singular annular connecting member directly contact engaging both said main body and said lens and being configured to releasably connect said main body to said lens; said lens being accommodated in said carrier device so as to cause said first lens surface to face toward said main body and said second lens surface to face away from said main body; said main body and said connecting member conjointly defining a protective cover surrounding said lateral peripheral edge of said lens and said first lens surface thereof facing toward said main body; said connecting member being in contact engagement with all of said edge surface when said lens is held in said carrier device so as to protect said edge surface from damage during said handling of said lens; and, said connecting member being one of: an adhesive tape placed around the lateral edge of the lens and a clamping ring engaging around the lateral edge of the lens. 2. A carrier device for handling a lens received therein, the lens having a lateral edge and a lens surface delimited by the lateral edge; the carrier device comprising: a main body; a connecting member for releasably connecting said main body to said lens; said lens being accommodated in said carrier device so as to cause said lens surface to face toward said main body; said main body and said connecting member conjointly defining a protective cover surrounding said lateral edge of said lens and said surface thereof facing toward said main body; and, said connecting member being configured to be releasably connected to said main body and being one of: an adhesive tape placed around the lateral edge of the lens and a clamping ring engaging around the lateral edge of the lens, wherein said lens has a second lens surface directed away from said main body; and, said adhesive tape has a narrowed contour between the lateral edge of the lens and a narrow side defining a surface continuously adjoining said second lens surface. 3. The carrier device of claim 2 , wherein said surface of said narrow side continuously and tangentially adjoins said second surface of said lens. 4. The carrier device of claim 1 , wherein said second lens surface is directed away from said main body; and, said clamping ring has a front face continuously adjoining said second surface of said lens. 5. The carrier device of claim 4 , wherein said front face of said clamping ring continuously and tangentially adjoins said second surface of said lens. 6. The carrier device of claim 1 , wherein said carrier device is for handling an eyeglass lens in a machining or finishing process. 7. A carrier device for handling a lens received therein, said lens having first and second lens surfaces and a lateral peripheral edge delimiting said first and second lens surfaces and defining an edge surface extending between said first and second lens surfaces; the carrier device comprising: a main body; a single annular connecting member directly contact engaging both said main body and said lens and being configured to releasably connect said main body to said lens; and, said connecting member being configured to bear with a force fit on all of said edge surface of said lens so as to protect said edge surface from damage during said handling of said lens. 8. The carrier device of claim 7 , wherein said carrier device is for handling an eyeglass lens in a machining or finishing process. 9. The carrier device of claim 7 , wherein said lens is accommodated in said carrier device so as to cause said first lens surface to face toward said main body; and, said connecting member and said main body conjointly define a protective cover surrounding said edge surface of said lens and said first lens surface thereof. 10. The carrier device of claim 9 , wherein said connecting member is configured to tightly fit said lateral peripheral edge of said lens. 11. A carrier device for handling a lens received therein, said lens having a lateral edge and a lens surface delimited by said lateral edge; the carrier device comprising: a main body; a connecting member for releasably connecting said main body to said lens; said connecting member being configured to be releasably connected to said main body; and, said connecting member being configured to bear with a force fit on said lateral edge of said lens, wherein said connecting member is an adhesive tape placed around said lateral edge of said lens. 12. The carrier device of claim 11 , wherein said lens has a second lens surface directed away from said main body; and, said adhesive tape has at least one of a narrowed contour between said lateral edge of said lens and a narrow side whose surface continuously adjoins said second surface of said lens. 13. The carrier device of claim 12 , wherein said narrow side continuously and tangentially adjoins said second surface of said lens. 14. The carrier device of claim 7 , wherein said connecting member is a clamping ring that engages around the lateral peripheral edge of said lens. 15. The carrier device of claim 14 , wherein said second lens surface is directed away from said main body; and, said clamping ring has a front face which continuously adjoins said second surface of said lens. 16. The carrier device of claim 15 , wherein said front face continuously and tangentially adjoins said second surface of said lens. 17. The carrier device of claim 9 , wherein said protective cover and said lens conjointly define a hollow space. 18. The carrier device of claim 17 , wherein said main body has at least one opening for feeding fluid into said hollow space or for removing fluid therefrom. 19. The carrier device of claim 18 , wherein said main body has a second opening through which fluid can be removed from said hollow space or can be fed into said hollow space. 20. The carrier device of claim 7 , further comprising a support member for supporting said lens on said surface thereof facing toward said main body. 21. A carrier device for handling a lens received therein, said lens having a lateral edge and a lens surface delimited by said lateral edge; the carrier device comprising: a main body; a connecting member for releasably connecting said main body to said lens; said connecting member being configured to be releasably connected to said main body; said connecting member being configured to bear with a force fit on said lateral edge of said lens; a machining system, a conditioning system or a machining and conditioning system in a processing station of a production facility and said machining system, conditioning system or machining and conditioning system having a coupling member; and, said main body being configured to have an attachment member for attachment to said coupling member. 22. The carrier device of claim 21 , wherein said attachment member defines a machine interface for said machining system, conditioning system or machining and conditioning system; and, said machine interface has a position reference point fixed on said main body. 23. The carrier device of claim 17 , wherein said main body has a side facing said hollow space; and, wherein said carrier device
