Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method for assembling a safety hose sleeve system using a crimper die set which includes an upper die comprising an upper curved compressive face, upper recess walls extending contiguous from the upper compressive face at an acute angle to the upper compressive face, each defining a portion of a cavity. Thrust plate slots extend upward from ends of the upper recess walls. A lower die comprises a lower curved compressive face. Lower recess walls extend contiguous from the lower compressive face at an acute angle to the lower compressive face and define another portion of each cavity. Lower thrust plate slots extend downward from an end of the lower recess walls. Thrust plates extend from the lower thrust plate slot into the upper thrust plate slot, across the cavity at an acute angle to each of the recess walls, defining an outer abutment of the cavity.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: disposing a collar between curved compressive faces of a pair of spaced apart dies of a die set, while said collar is disposed over a portion of a safety sleeve at or near an end of said safety sleeve, while said safety sleeve is disposed over a fluid conduit; and compressing said collar, with at least one portion of said collar compressed by said curved compressive faces to capture said portion of said safety sleeve between said collar and said conduit at an end of said conduit, and at least one other portion of said collar pressed into a cavity defined by said dies coming together to form at least one raised portion in said collar, wherein said raised portion provides a fluid flow path at said end of said sleeve to allow fluid to exit from an interstitial space defined between said sleeve and said conduit. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one portion of said collar compressed by said curved compressive faces comprises opposite portions of said collar, each capturing an opposite side of said portion of said safety sleeve between said collar and said conduit. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one other portion of said collar pressed into a cavity defined by said dies coming together comprises opposite portions of said collar pressed into two opposing cavities defined by said dies coming together, forming two oppositely disposed raised portions in said collar. 4. A method comprising: disposing a collar between curved compressive faces of a pair of spaced apart dies of a die set, while said collar is disposed over a portion of a safety sleeve at or near an end of said safety sleeve, while said safety sleeve is disposed over a fluid conduit; each of said dies comprising at least a portion of a cavity contiguous with said compressive face; wherein said cavity comprises at least one recess defined by each die that corresponds with a recess defined by the other die when said dies are brought together; and wherein each said recess defines at least one recess wall extending generally contiguous to and at a reflex angle from an end of said curved compressive face; the die set further comprising at least one thrust plate extending from one die into a first thrust plate slot defined in the other die, wherein said at least one thrust plate extends across said cavity at an acute angle to said at least one wall; and compressing said collar, with at least one portion of said collar compressed by said curved compressive faces to capture said portion of said safety sleeve between said collar and said conduit at an end of said conduit, and at least one other portion of said collar pressed into a cavity defined by said dies coming together to form at least one raised portion in said collar, wherein said raised portion provides a fluid flow path at said end of said sleeve to allow fluid to exit from an interstitial space defined between said sleeve and said conduit. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said at least one thrust plate defines an outer abutment of said cavity. 6. The method of claim 4 wherein said at least one portion of said collar compressed by said curved compressive faces comprises opposite portions of said collar, each capturing an opposite side of said portion of said safety sleeve between said collar and said conduit. 7. The method of claim 4 wherein the dies of the die set comprise: an upper die and a lower die; a corresponding pair of upper thrust plate slots one of which is said first thrust plate slot, each extending upward from an end of each of said recess walls of said upper die, distal from said compressive face of said upper die; and a corresponding pair of lower thrust plate slots, each extending downward from an end of each of said recess walls of said lower die, distal from said compressive face of said lower die. 8. The method of claim 7 wherein said at least one other portion of said collar pressed into a cavity defined by said dies coming together comprises opposite portions of said collar pressed into two opposing cavities defined by said dies coming together, forming two oppositely disposed raised portions in said collar. 9. The method of claim 8 wherein said at least one thrust plate comprises a pair of thrust plates, each extending from one of said lower thrust plate slots into a corresponding one of said upper thrust plate slots, across each of said cavities at an acute angle to said recess walls, each defining an outer abutment of one of said cavities.
