Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for percutaneous valve replacement and/or augmentation are provided. The apparatus includes a valve having a valve frame, a valve leaflet coupled to the valve frame, and a leaflet transition member coupled to the valve leaflet. The valve leaflet and leaflet transition member can transition from a first position where the valve leaflet and leaflet frame are at least partially outside a lumen of the valve frame to a second position where the valve leaflet and the leaflet transition member are within the lumen of the valve frame.

First claim

What is claimed: 1. A valve comprising: a first longitudinal section comprising: a valve frame forming first and second ends of the first longitudinal section; a second longitudinal section comprising: first and second ends, the first end engaged to the second end of the first longitudinal section; and circumferentially adjacent leaflet frames, each leaflet frame having first and second ends, the first end being wider than the second end, the first end of the leaflet frame positioned at the first end of the second longitudinal section; wherein the valve has: a delivery configuration wherein the second longitudinal section extends longitudinally from the first longitudinal section with the second end of the second longitudinal section being positioned a longitudinal distance from the first longitudinal section; and an implanted configuration wherein the second longitudinal section is positioned inside a lumen defined by the first longitudinal section, the first end of the second longitudinal section and the second end of the first longitudinal section forming an end of the valve. 2. The valve of claim 1 , each leaflet frame engaged to a leaflet, each leaflet having a free end configured to move between an open and closed position after implantation of the valve, the free end engaged to the first end of the leaflet frame. 3. The valve of claim 1 , wherein the second longitudinal section is hinged to the first longitudinal section for movement from the delivery configuration to the implanted configuration. 4. The valve of claim 1 , the second longitudinal section further comprising a leaflet transition member forming the second end of the second longitudinal section, the leaflet transition member selected from the group consisting of a serpentine ring and a coil. 5. The valve of claim 1 , wherein the second longitudinal section further comprises a mechanical member for attachment of the second longitudinal section to the valve frame when the valve is in the implanted configuration. 6. The valve of claim 1 , wherein the valve frame and the leaflet frames comprise a metal material. 7. A valve having first and second ends, the valve comprising circumferentially adjacent leaflet frames, each leaflet frame having first and second ends, the first end being wider than the second end, the leaflets frames movable from a first position wherein the first ends of the leaflet frames are oriented towards the first end of the valve, to a second position wherein the first ends of the leaflet frames are oriented towards the second end of the valve; the valve further comprising a tubular valve frame with first and second ends, wherein the first ends of the leaflet frames are engaged to the second end of the valve frame in both the first position and the second position; the valve further comprising a tubular leaflet transition member engaged to the second ends of the leaflet frames, the leaflet transition member comprising a serpentine ring. 8. The valve of claim 7 , each leaflet frame engaged to a leaflet, each leaflet having a free end engaged to the first end of the leaflet frame.
