In embodiments of an embedded light sensing component, a lens assembly includes a display component to display a user interface, such as when implemented in a wearable device. The lens assembly has a lens structure that covers the display component. The lens assembly also includes a light sensor that is implemented to sense ambient light in an environment proximate the lens structure, where the light sensor is embedded between the display component and the lens structure of the lens assembly.

The invention claimed is: 1. A lens assembly, comprising: a display component configured to display a user interface; a lens structure configured to cover the display component; a touch sensor layered between the display component and the lens structure, the touch sensor having a cutout; and a light sensor configured to sense ambient light in an environment proximate the lens structure, the light sensor positioned between the display component and the lens structure and embedded through the cutout. 2. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the light sensor is positioned in a laminate stack between the display component and the lens structure. 3. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the lens structure is a two-part poly carbonate lens structure. 4. The lens assembly as recited in claim 3 , wherein a first poly carbonate lens is configured for printed graphics that are protected between the first poly carbonate lens and a second poly carbonate lens of the two-part poly carbonate lens structure. 5. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the lens structure has a second cutout and wherein the light sensor is embedded through the second cutout. 6. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the touch sensor comprises X and Y bonding pads configured in four split sections, two of the split sections layered above the light sensor in the lens assembly as first X and Y bonding pads, and another two of the split sections layered below the light sensor in the lens assembly as second X and Y bonding pads. 7. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the display component comprises an adjustable display brightness based on the ambient light that is sensed by the light sensor in the environment proximate the lens structure, the adjustable display brightness effective to conserve display component power. 8. The lens assembly as recited in claim 1 , further comprising a glass lens configured to cover the lens assembly and through which the light sensor is configured to sense the ambient light in the environment proximate the lens structure. 9. A method, comprising: displaying a user interface on a display component of a wearable device; sensing touch inputs with a touch sensor that is layered over the display component; and sensing ambient light in an environment proximate a lens structure that covers the touch sensor and the display component, the ambient light sensed with a light sensor that is embedded between the display component and the lens structure, wherein the touch sensor is configured with a cutout through which the light sensor is said embedded. 10. The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein: the lens structure is a two-part poly carbonate lens structure. 11. The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the lens structure is configured with a second cutout through which the light sensor is said embedded. 12. The method as recited in claim 9 , further comprising: adjusting a display brightness of the display component based on the ambient light that is sensed by the light sensor in the environment proximate the lens structure, the adjustable display brightness effective to conserve display component power. 13. A wearable device, comprising: a display component configured to display a user interface; a lens structure configured to cover the display component; a touch sensor configured to sense touch inputs to the user interface, the touch sensor having a cutout and layered between the display component and the lens structure; and a light sensor configured to sense ambient light in an environment proximate the lens structure, the light sensor positioned between the display component and the lens structure and embedded through the cutout. 14. The wearable device as recited in claim 13 , wherein: the lens structure is a two-part lens structure. 15. The wearable device as recited in claim 14 , wherein: the two-part lens structure is a two-part poly carbonate lens structure; and a first poly carbonate lens is configured for printed graphics that are protected between the first poly carbonate lens and a second poly carbonate lens of the two-part poly carbonate lens structure. 16. The wearable device as recited in claim 13 , wherein lens structure has a second cutout and wherein the light sensor is embedded through the second cutout. 17. The wearable device as recited in claim 13 , further comprising: a glass lens configured to cover the lens structure and through which the light sensor is configured to sense the ambient light in the environment proximate the lens structure. 18. The wearable device as recited in claim 13 , wherein the touch sensor comprises X and Y bonding pads configured in four split sections, two of the split sections layered above the light sensor in the lens assembly as first X and Y bonding pads, and another two of the split sections layered below the light sensor in the lens assembly as second X and Y bonding pads.
