Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Acidic viscoelastic cleaning compositions are disclosed which use non polymer thickening agents. According to the invention, cleaning compositions have been developed using viscoelastic surfactants in acidic cleaning formulations. These provide the dual benefit of thickening as well as an additional cleaning, thereby improving performance. Applicants have also identified several pseudo linking agents which when, used with viscoelastic surfactants provide enhanced viscoelasticity and cleaning.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of thickening a cleaning composition without the use of polymers comprising: adding to said composition a non polymer acidic viscoelastic surfactant, wherein said non polymer acidic viscoelastic surfactant includes one or more of the following: erucic dimethyl amido propyl betaine C 29 H 57 N 2 O 3 , dicarboxylic coconut derived sodium salt (Miranol C2M-SF), cocamidopropyl dimethylamine (Mackine GO-163), cocoamidopropyl betaine, alkylether hydroxypropyl sultaine (Mirataine ASC); adding to said composition an acidic constituent and a polar carrier; and admixing with said surfactant a pseudo linker, wherein said pseudo linker includes one or more of the following: MgSO 4 , MgCl 2 , and glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt (GLDA), wherein the pH of said thickening composition is less than about 7, and wherein said composition does not include polymeric thickening agents. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said non polymer acidic viscoelastic surfactant is cocoamidopropyl betaine. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said pseudo linker is glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt (GLDA). 4. An acidic viscoelastic thickening composition comprising: a. a non polymer acidic viscoelastic surfactant, wherein said viscoelastic surfactant includes one or more of the following: erucic dimethyl amido propyl betaine C 29 H 57 N 2 O 3 , dicarboxylic coconut derived sodium salt (Miranol C2M-SF), cocamidopropyl dimethylamine (Mackine GO-163), cocoamidopropyl betaine, alkylether hydroxypropyl sultaine (Mirataine ASC), and amine oxide, b. an acidic constituent, wherein said acidic constituent is citric acid c. a polar carrier, and d. a pseudo linker, wherein said pseudo linker includes one or more of the following: MgSO 4 , MgCl 2 , glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt (GLDA), wherein the pH of said thickening composition is less than about 7, and wherein said composition does not include polymeric thickening agents. 5. The composition of claim 4 wherein said pseudo linker is present in a ratio greater than 1:1 of active percent by weight of linker to active percent by weight of surfactant. 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein said viscoelastic surfactant is present in an amount of from about 0.1 wt. % to about 2 wt. % of active surfactant. 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein said pseudo linker is present in an amount from about 0.2 wt. % to about 5% by weight of said composition. 8. The method of claim 2 wherein the pseudo linker is one or more of MgSO 4 and MgCl 2 . 9. The composition of claim 4 wherein the pseudo linker is glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt (GLDA). 10. The composition of claim 4 wherein the viscoelastic surfactant is one or more of dicarboxylic coconut derived sodium salt (Miranol C2M-SF), cocamidopropyl dimethylamine (Mackine GO-163), and alkylether hydroxypropyl sultaine (Mirataine ASC). 11. A method of preparing a viscoelastic cleaning composition free of polymer thickening agents comprising: adding to an aqueous medium a viscoelastic surfactant in an amount from about 2 wt. % to about 15 wt. %, wherein the viscoelastic surfactant is one or more of erucic dimethyl amido propyl betaine C 29 H 57 N 2 O 3 , dicarboxylic coconut derived sodium salt (Miranol C2M-SF), cocamidopropyl dimethylamine (Mackine GO-163), cocoamidopropyl betaine, alkylether hydroxypropyl sultaine (Mirataine ASC), and amine oxide; adding a pseudo linker in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 20 wt. %, wherein the pseudo linker is one or more of MgCl 2 , glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt (GLDA), and MgSO 4 ; and adding an acidic constituent in an amount from about 0.5 wt. % to about 15 wt. %, such that the total composition has a pH of 0.001-2.5, wherein the acidic constituent is citric acid.
