Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A bone reamer includes a first member having a first hub and a second member having a second hub. The first hub can extend along a first axis and have a pair of elongated cutting arms that are fixed to the first hub. The elongated cutting arms can extend along a second axis that is generally perpendicular relative to the first axis. The first hub can define a track thereon. The second hub can extend along a third axis. The second member can have a second pair of elongated cutting arms that are fixed to the second hub and extend along a fourth axis that is generally perpendicular to the third axis. The second member can have a track follower extending thereon and that is configured to slideably advance along the track causing the first and second members to move between a collapsed position and an expanded position.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

What is claimed is: 1. A bone reamer comprising: a glenoid face reamer portion; a post cutting portion extending from the glenoid face reamer portion along a first axis of an elongated body, the post cutting portion including a first stepped cutting portion and a second stepped cutting portion, the second stepped cutting portion extending from the first stepped cutting portion along the first axis; and a boss cutting portion formed between the glenoid face reamer portion and the post cutting portion, the boss cutting portion having a curved profile along a cutting surface, wherein the glenoid face reamer portion, the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion are all formed as a unitary component and configured to concurrently ream a glenoid and create a resultant space for accepting a corresponding platform, a post and a boss of a glenoid component, wherein the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion each includes an X-shaped construct. 2. The bone reamer of claim 1 , wherein the glenoid face reamer portion has a plurality of cutting teeth formed thereon. 3. The bone reamer of claim 1 , wherein the glenoid face reamer portion comprises a pair of intersecting cutting arms. 4. The bone reamer of claim 3 , wherein the pair of intersecting cutting arms extend along a second axis that is perpendicular to the first axis. 5. The bone reamer of claim 4 , wherein the pair of intersecting cutting arms generally defines a propeller shape. 6. The bone reamer of claim 1 , wherein the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion are both formed along the first axis of the elongated body and wherein the glenoid face reamer portion extends along a second axis that is transverse to the first axis. 7. The bone reamer of claim 6 , wherein the glenoid face reamer portion has an outer lateral dimension transverse to the first axis that is greater than a corresponding outer lateral dimension of the boss cutting portion and the post cutting portion. 8. The bone reamer of claim 7 , wherein the outer lateral dimension of the boss cutting portion is greater than the outer lateral dimension of the post cutting portion. 9. The bone reamer of claim 1 , wherein the post cutting portion includes a third stepped cutting portion. 10. The bone reamer of claim 9 , wherein one of the first, second and third cutting portions generally transitions into the curved profile of the boss cutting portion. 11. A bone reamer comprising: an elongated body having a first axis; a glenoid face reamer portion having two planar surfaces that transversely extend from the first axis, each of the planar surfaces having a proximal end that is connected to the elongated body and a distal end that is connected to the elongated body by a curved surface extending from the distal end to the elongated body; a post cutting portion extending from the glenoid face reamer portion along the first axis of the elongated body, the post cutting portion including a first stepped cutting portion and a second stepped cutting portion, the second stepped cutting portion extending from the first stepped cutting portion along the first axis; and a boss cutting portion formed between the glenoid face reamer portion and the post cutting portion, the boss cutting portion having a curved profile along a cutting surface, wherein the glenoid face reamer portion, the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion are all formed as a unitary component and configured to concurrently ream a glenoid and create a resultant space for accepting a corresponding platform, a post and a boss of a glenoid component, wherein the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion each includes an X-shaped construct. 12. The bone reamer of claim 11 , wherein each of the curved surfaces has a radius of curvature that decreases from the distal end of the planar surface to the intersection of the curved surface with the elongated body. 13. A bone reamer comprising: an elongated body having a first axis; a glenoid face reamer portion having two planar surfaces that transversely extend from the first axis, each of the planar surfaces having a proximal end that is connected to the elongated body and a distal end that is connected to the elongated body by a curved surface extending from the distal end to the elongated body, wherein each of the curved surfaces has a radius of curvature that decreases from the distal end of the planar surface to the intersection of the curved surface with the elongated body; a post cutting portion extending from the glenoid face reamer portion along the first axis of the elongated body; and a boss cutting portion formed between the glenoid face reamer portion and the post cutting portion, the boss cutting portion having a curved profile along a cutting surface connecting the glenoid face reamer portion to the post cutting portion, wherein the glenoid face reamer portion, the post cutting portion, and the boss cutting portion are all formed as a unitary component, wherein the post cutting portion and the boss cutting portion each includes an X-shaped construct.
