Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A capsule-based beverage production machine that comprises a module designed for producing a beverage on the basis of ingredients which are contained in a capsule. The module comprises: means for retaining the capsule in a fixed position, and means for perforation of the capsule, wherein the perforation means are controlled to perforate the capsule after the capsule is retained in the fixed position by the retaining means.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

The invention is claimed as follows: 1. A beverage production machine designed for producing a beverage from a capsule and having a module comprising: a retaining means comprising a first capsule engagement member and a second capsule engagement member that co-operates with the first capsule engagement member, wherein the first capsule engagement member can be displaced relative to the second capsule engagement member between an opened capsule-insertion position and a closed capsule-engagement position, the first and second capsule engagement members being relatively displaced in a combined displacement comprising a swiveling or rotating movement when the first and second capsule engagement members are distanced from each other, and a linear displacement when the first and second capsule engagement members are close together; an opening means comprising a perforation member mechanically coupled to at least one of the first and second capsule engagement members and configured to protrude into a capsule-enclosure space when the first and second capsule engagement members are in the closed capsule-engagement position, wherein the module injects water into a capsule and drains a beverage from the capsule while the capsule is in a closed beverage production position; flexible capsule pre-fixation arms comprising vertical grooves so constructed and arranged to engage with a rim of the capsule for pre-positioning the capsule and holding the capsule in place when the capsule has been inserted in the module, the linear displacement of the first engagement member displacing the capsule from the vertical grooves in the flexible pre-fixation arms to a final beverage position. 2. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the flexible capsule pre-fixation arms are provided at the lateral sides of the capsule when seen from above, and the arms respectively present a vertical groove. 3. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement member has a shape of a hollow bell member and is provided with capsule opening means. 4. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement member is operatively connected to disengagement means which are designed to co-operate with a specifically designed surface of the pre-fixation means in order to push the pre-fixation means to the outside to disengage the vertical grooves of the pre-fixation means from the rim of the capsule when the capsule is displaced to a final beverage production position or to let the capsule pass the pre-fixation means without being engaged by the pre-fixation means after completion of a beverage production. 5. The machine of claim 4 , wherein the specifically designed surface is a slanted surface. 6. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the module comprises means for actively retracting the capsule from the closed capsule-engagement position to a capsule discharge position in which the capsule is discharged from the module, the capsule discharge position being offset relative to the vertical of the beverage flow path. 7. The machine of claim 6 , wherein the retracting means are designed to linearly retract the capsule from the beverage production position and dislodge the capsule from one of the engagement members, and wherein the retracting means are further designed to retract the capsule in a swiveling movement, wherein the swiveling movement is designed to dislodge the capsule from one of the engagement members. 8. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the retaining means and the opening means are mechanically coupled such that the opening means opens the capsule after the capsule is retained in the closed capsule-engagement position by the retaining means. 9. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the perforation member is displaced at least partially together with the at least one of the first and second capsule engagement members coupled to the perforation member. 10. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the retaining means and the opening means are controlled by a common manual or electric actuator. 11. The machine of claim 7 , wherein the perforation member is transferred into a retracted position relative to the at least one of the first and second capsule engagement members coupled to the perforation member during or after the swiveling movement. 12. A beverage production system comprising a capsule containing ingredients and a module comprising: a first capsule engagement member that can be displaced relative to a second, cooperating capsule engagement member between an opened capsule-insertion position and a closed capsule-engagement position, the first and second capsule engagement members being displaced in a combined displacement comprising a swiveling or rotating movement when the first and second capsule engagement members are distanced from each other, and a linear displacement when the first and second capsule engagement members are close together; an opening means comprising a perforation member mechanically coupled to at least one of the first and second capsule engagement members and configured to protrude into a capsule-enclosure space when the first and second capsule engagement members are in the closed capsule-engagement position, wherein the module injects water into a capsule and drains a beverage from the capsule while the capsule is in a closed beverage production position; flexible capsule pre-fixation arms comprising vertical grooves so constructed and arranged to engage with a rim of the capsule for pre-positioning the capsule and holding the capsule in place when the capsule has been inserted in the module, the linear displacement of the first engagement member displacing the capsule from the vertical grooves in the flexible pre-fixation arms to a final beverage position.
