A tissue puncture closure assembly including a wire assembly and a sealing pad delivery device. The wire assembly includes a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a temporary expandable anchor positioned at the distal end portion. The sealing pad delivery device includes a carrier tube, a sealing pad positioned in the carrier tube, and a lateral wire slot. The lateral wire slot is defined in an outer surface of the sealing pad delivery device and extends along at least a portion of a length of the sealing pad delivery device. The lateral wire slot is configured to permit mounting of the sealing pad delivery device to the wire assembly in a lateral direction.

What is claimed is: 1. A tissue puncture closure assembly, comprising: a wire assembly including: a proximal end portion and a distal end portion; a temporary expandable anchor positioned at the distal end portion, the temporary expandable anchor having a collapsed state and an expanded state; a sealing pad delivery device including: a carrier tube; a sealing pad positioned in the carrier tube; a lateral wire slot defined in an outer surface of the sealing pad delivery device and extending along at least a portion of respective lengths of the sealing pad delivery device, the carrier tube, and the sealing pad, the lateral wire slot being configured to permit mounting of the sealing pad delivery device to the wire assembly in a lateral direction; a wire locking member configured to releasably lock axial movement of the sealing pad delivery device relative to the wire assembly, the wire assembly being laterally movable relative to the wire locking member when the sealing pad delivery device is mounted to the wire assembly in a lateral direction; wherein the anchor in the collapsed state is proximally withdrawable through the sealing pad of the sealing pad delivery device. 2. The tissue puncture closure assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lateral wire slot is configured to provide a snap-fit connection of the sealing pad delivery device to the wire assembly. 3. The tissue puncture locator device of claim 1 , wherein the sealing pad delivery device further includes a housing, and the lateral wire slot is defined in an outer surface of the housing. 4. The tissue puncture locator device of claim 1 , wherein the wire assembly further includes a handle positioned at the proximal end portion and an anchor actuator mounted to the handle. 5. The tissue puncture locator device of claim 1 , wherein the wire assembly includes a tubular portion defining a lumen, and a wire member positioned in the lumen, wherein relative movement between the tubular portion and the wire member expands and contracts the anchor. 6. The tissue puncture locator device of claim 5 , wherein the wire assembly further includes an anchor actuator positioned at the proximal end portion and configured to move the wire member relative to the tubular portion. 7. The tissue puncture locator device of claim 6 , wherein the sealing pad delivery device includes a wire lumen sized to receive a portion of the wire assembly that is located between the distal and proximal end portions, and the proximal end portion of the wire assembly is sized greater than the wire lumen. 8. A tissue puncture closure device adapted for insertion into and sealing of a tissue puncture in a tissue wall, the closure device comprising: a housing; a carrier tube extending from the housing, the carrier tube having a carrier tube lateral slot; a sealing pad positioned in the carrier tube, the sealing pad having a sealing pad lateral slot being aligned with the carrier tube lateral slot; a guidewire lumen extending through the housing and carrier tube; wherein the closure device is operable to mount to a guidewire that is positioned in the tissue puncture by inserting the guidewire through the lateral slots of the carrier tube and the sealing pad and into the guidewire lumen; a wire locking member configured to fix axial movement of the closure device relative to the guidewire, the guidewire moving laterally relative to the wire locking, member when inserted into the guidewire lumen. 9. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 8 , wherein a portion of the guidewire located between proximal and distal ends of the guidewire is inserted into the lateral guidewire slot. 10. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 8 , further comprising an tube retractor actuator operable to withdraw the carrier tube relative to the housing to expose the sealing pad. 11. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 10 , wherein the lateral guidewire slot includes a tapered construction. 12. The tissue puncture closure device of claim 11 , wherein the lateral guidewire slot is configured to provide a snap-fit connection between the guidewire and the closure device.
