A portable communication device equipped with a screen and a random access memory is described. The device can receive a data stream through a radio link and can automatically display information from the data stream on the display screen, without any user's request, where a part of this information is stored in the random access memory during a period of time that is longer than the duration of display. The device can also display information from the data stream on the display screen, upon user's request, where this information is stored in the random access memory during the duration of display only. Also described is a base able to communicate with such a portable communication device.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for communication with a portable communication device implemented at a base, said method comprising: connecting to a network; receiving a first data stream through said network; receiving at least one second data stream through the network, said first data stream preceding the at least one second stream, said second data stream being different from said first data stream; extracting, from the at least one second data stream, first data and second data, said first data and second data corresponding to an update of data received in said first data stream; formatting the first data stream and the at least one second data stream received from said network, said formatting being implemented at a level of said base and is carried out according to two models of predefined textual and graphical elements including a first model for transmission of the first data and a second model for transmission of the second data; transmitting said first data through a radio link without receiving a request; and transmitting said second data through said radio link in response to a request. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the formatting is implemented at a level of said base and is implemented according to said predefined textual and graphical elements.
