Abstract

A personal wireless navigation system operable on wireless phone devices provides a platform for empowering a merchant-paid search. Performance of a navigation functionality in a personal wireless navigation system is higher and more comparable and competitive with portable navigation devices and in-car navigation systems, and the search capability is comparable and competitive with the most popular web search engines. A user interface (UI) and look and feel of the personal wireless navigation system is provided which is enhanced so that users do not simply want to use the product—they covet it. The personal wireless navigation system may be constructed such that a subset of it with fewer features and functions can be productized, marketed and deployed to users.

First claim

What is claimed is:

1. A carousel user interface for a personal wireless device, comprising:
a location wizard to periodically update a current location of a personal wireless device;
a configuration file storing a plurality of pre-configured location-based information types for inclusion in a circular-depicted carousel;
said circular-depicted carousel comprising a plurality of carousel pages of location-based information, said carousel being visually rotated about a center, and said carousel continuously rotating sequentially said plurality of carousel pages of location-based information, and repeating said rotation in a same order on subsequent full rotations of said carousel;
wherein said carousel further comprises at least one carousel page of changing location-based information that changes upon each full rotation of said carousel.

2. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said location wizard periodically updates said current location of said personal wireless device to refresh a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in a background of said personal wireless device.

3. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said location wizard periodically updates said current location of said personal wireless device to refresh a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in a foreground of said personal wireless device.

4. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said location wizard periodically updates said current location of said personal wireless device to refresh a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in either a foreground of said personal wireless device or a background of said personal wireless device.

5. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
if a latest current location is greater than a predetermined distance from an immediately prior current location, updating each of said carousel pages of location-based information.

6. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said periodic update is approximately every 20 minutes.

7. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
local weather.

8. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
gas prices at each of a plurality of gas stations nearest a most recent current location of said personal wireless device.

9. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
movies at least one closes theater to said latest current location of said personal wireless device.

10. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said plurality of carousel pages of location-based information comprises:
an upcoming event in a local region including said latest current location of said personal wireless device.

11. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said plurality of carousel pages of location-based information includes:
a navigation application running on said personal wireless device.

12. The carousel user interface for a personal wireless device according to claim 1 , wherein:
content of at least one of said plurality of carousel pages of location-based information is replaced after each full 360 degree rotation of said carousel.

13. A method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device, comprising:
periodically updating a current location of a personal wireless device;
accessing a configuration file to determine a plurality of pre-configured location-based information types for inclusion in a circular-depicted carousel;
assembling a plurality of carousel pages of location-based information visually into a carousel that rotates about a center point, said plurality of carousel pages of location-based information displaying information readable from a direction outside a perimeter of said carousel; and
changing a content of one of said plurality of carousel pages of information after each rotation of said carousel beyond when said one of said plurality of carousel pages of information is displayed front and center;
wherein said carousel is rotated in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction by hand gestures on a touch screen of said personal wireless device.

14. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein:
said current location of said personal wireless device is periodically updated with a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in a background of said personal wireless device.

15. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein:
said current location of said personal wireless device is periodically updated with a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in a foreground of said personal wireless device.

16. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein:
said current location of said personal wireless device is periodically updated with a latest current location when said carousel user interface is operating in either a foreground of said personal wireless device or a background of said personal wireless device.

17. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein:
updating each of said carousel pages of location-based information if a latest current location is greater than a predetermined distance from an immediately prior current location.

18. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein:
said periodic update is approximately every 20 minutes.

19. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
local weather.

20. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
gas prices at each of a plurality of gas stations nearest a most recent current location of said personal wireless device.

21. The method of displaying a plurality of location-based pages of information on a personal wireless device according to claim 13 , wherein said plurality of location-based information types includes:
