A process and apparatus described is for distributing fluidizing gas to a riser. Fluidizing gas is delivered to a plenum below the riser. A first stream of fluidizing gas is distributed from the plenum into a chamber in a riser and a second stream of fluidizing gas is distributed from the plenum into the riser outside of the chamber. First nozzles in the plenum have a first outlet in the chamber and second nozzles in the plenum have a second outlet outside of the chamber. Streams of regenerated catalyst and carbonized catalyst may be passed to the riser and mixed around the chamber in a lower section of a riser.

The invention claimed is: 1. A fluid catalytic process comprising: feeding a stream of fluidizing gas to a plenum; distributing a first stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into a chamber in a riser; distributing a second stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into said riser outside of said chamber; injecting a hydrocarbon feed stream into said riser; feeding a first stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream; and passing said hydrocarbon feed stream and said first stream of catalyst up said riser. 2. The process of claim 1 further comprising feeding a second stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream. 3. The process of claim 2 further comprising: passing said first stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said second stream of catalyst; and passing said second stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said first stream of catalyst. 4. The process of claim 1 wherein said first stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes said first stream of catalyst in said chamber and pushes catalyst out of said chamber. 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said second stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes said first stream of catalyst in said riser outside of said chamber and pushes catalyst up said riser. 6. The process of claim 1 further comprising passing said first stream of fluidizing gas and said second stream of fluidizing gas upwardly through nozzles in a top of said plenum into said riser. 7. The process of claim 1 further comprising transitioning said stream of catalyst and said hydrocarbon feed stream from an enlarged lower section to a narrowed upper section as they are passed up said riser. 8. A fluid catalytic process comprising: feeding a stream of fluidizing gas to a plenum; distributing a first stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into a chamber in a riser; distributing a second stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into said riser outside of said chamber; injecting a hydrocarbon feed stream into said riser; feeding a first stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream; and feeding a second stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream passing said hydrocarbon feed stream and said streams of catalyst up said riser. 9. The process of claim 8 further comprising: passing said first stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said second stream of catalyst; and passing said second stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said first stream of catalyst. 10. The process of claim 9 wherein said first stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes catalyst in said chamber and pushes catalyst out of said chamber. 11. The process of claim 9 wherein said second stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes catalyst in said riser outside of said chamber and pushes catalyst up said riser. 12. The process of claim 8 further comprising passing said first stream of fluidizing gas and said second stream of fluidizing gas upwardly through nozzles in a top of said plenum into said riser. 13. The process of claim 8 further comprising transitioning said first stream of catalyst, said second stream of catalyst and said hydrocarbon feed stream from an enlarged lower section to a narrowed upper section as they are passed up said riser. 14. A fluid catalytic process comprising: feeding a stream of fluidizing gas to a plenum; distributing a first stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into a chamber in a riser by passing said first stream of fluidizing gas upwardly through nozzles in a top of said plenum into said riser; distributing a second stream of fluidizing gas from said plenum into said riser outside of said chamber by passing said second stream of fluidizing gas upwardly through nozzles in a top of said plenum into said riser outside of said chamber; injecting a hydrocarbon feed stream into said riser; feeding a first stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream; and passing said hydrocarbon feed stream and said stream of catalyst up said riser. 15. The process of claim 14 further comprising feeding a second stream of catalyst to said riser to contact said hydrocarbon feed stream. 16. The process of claim 15 further comprising: passing said first stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said second stream of catalyst; and passing said second stream of catalyst around and into said chamber to mix with said first stream of catalyst. 17. The process of claim 14 wherein said first stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes said first stream of catalyst in said chamber and pushes catalyst out of said chamber. 18. The process of claim 14 wherein said second stream of fluidizing gas fluidizes said first stream of catalyst in said riser outside of said chamber and pushes catalyst up said riser. 19. The process of claim 14 further comprising transitioning said stream of catalyst and said hydrocarbon feed stream from an enlarged lower section to a narrowed upper section as they are passed up said riser.
