An intraocular lens assembly for positioning in a lens capsule of a patient's eye is disclosed. The intraocular lens is placed within an enclosed incision in target tissue in the patient's eye, wherein the incision is formed by a laser system including a scanner for deflecting a light beam to form an enclosed treatment pattern including a registration feature in the target tissue, and wherein the intraocular lens has a registration feature that engages with the registration feature of the enclosed incision. Alternately, the scanner can make a separate registration incision for a post that is connected to the intraocular lens via a strut member.

What is claimed is: 1. An intraocular lens assembly for positioning in a lens capsule of a patient's eye, consisting of: a lens optic assembly including an optic portion and a surface surrounding a sidewall of the optic portion, the lens optic assembly being shaped for positioning in a capsulorhexis incision in the patient's lens and focusing light passing therethrough, wherein the optic portion comprises a lens; exactly two spring haptics, each haptic being coupled to the lens optic assembly at a different juncture, each haptic comprising a first end coupled to the lens optic assembly and second end disposed outward from and unconnected to the lens optic assembly, the two spring haptics being shaped for supplying a spring force to the lens optic assembly within the lens capsule of the patient's eye when the lens is implanted therein; one and only one post and one and only one strut assembly, the post connected to the surface by the strut assembly and shaped for positioning in a registration incision formed in the patient's lens capsule that is offset from the capsulorhexis incision, thereby securing rotational orientation of the optic portion in the patient's eye, and wherein the strut assembly is connected to the surface at a position different from each juncture. 2. The intraocular lens assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lens is an astigmatic lens. 3. The intraocular lens assembly of claim 1 , wherein the haptics are shaped so as to secure positioning of the intraocular lens when positioned in the patient's eye. 4. The intraocular lens assembly of claim 1 , wherein the post is shaped for positioning in a registration incision such that the intraocular lens resists rotation about an optical axis of the lens optic assembly when the intraocular lens is positioned in the patient's eye. 5. An intraocular lens assembly for positioning in a lens capsule of a patient's eye, consisting of: a lens optic assembly including an optic portion and a surface surrounding an edge of the optic portion, the lens optic assembly being shaped for positioning in a capsulorhexis incision in the patient's lens and focusing light passing therethrough; exactly two spring haptics, each haptic being coupled to the lens optic assembly at a different juncture, the two haptics extending from the lens optic assembly and shaped for supplying a spring force to the lens optic assembly within the lens capsule of the patient's eye when the lens is implanted therein; and one and only one post and one and only one strut member, the post connected to the surface by the strut member and shaped for positioning in a registration incision formed in the patient's lens capsule that is offset from the capsulorhexis incision, thereby securing rotational orientation of the optic portion in the patient's eye, and wherein the strut member is connected to the surface at a position different from each juncture. 6. An intraocular lens for replacing a natural lens in a lens capsule of a patient's eye, consisting of: an optic shaped for focusing light passing therethrough, wherein the optic comprises a lens; a surface surrounding an edge of the optic; two haptics extending from the surface for supplying a spring force to the optic within the lens capsule when the intraocular lens is implanted therein; and one and only one post and one and only one strut member, the post separated from the optic and the two haptics, the post being connected to a strut member, the strut member being directly connected to the surface at a juncture spaced apart from the at least two haptics, and wherein the post is shaped to be received in a registration incision in the patient's lens capsule when the intraocular lens is inserted in the patient's lens capsule through a capsulorhexis incision that is separate and distinct from the registration incision, thereby securing rotational orientation of the optic in the patient's eye. 7. The intraocular lens of claim 6 , wherein the post is disposed atop the strut member. 8. The intraocular lens of claim 6 , wherein the lens is an astigmatic lens. 9. The intraocular lens of claim 6 , wherein the intraocular lens is shaped such that, when inserted in the patient's lens, the intraocular lens resists rotation about an optical axis of the lens. 10. The intraocular lens of claim 6 , wherein the two haptics each comprise a resilient member having a first end connected to the surface and a second end disposed outward from and unconnected to the surface. 11. An intraocular lens for replacing a natural lens in a lens capsule of a patient's eye, consisting of: an optic shaped for focusing light passing therethrough; a surface surrounding an edge of the optic; exactly two haptics extending from the surface for supplying a spring force to the optic within the lens intraocular capsule when the intraocular lens is implanted therein; and one and only one post and one and only one strut member, the post separated from the optic and the two haptics, the post being connected to the surface by the strut member directly connected to the surface, wherein the post is shaped to be received in a registration incision in the patient's lens capsule when the intraocular lens is inserted in the patient's lens capsule through a capsulorhexis incision that is separate and distinct from the registration incision, thereby securing rotational orientation of the optic in the patient's eye.
