We claim: 1. An anti-stem cell factor antibody that specifically binds to stem cell factor isoform b relative to stem cell factor isoform a or an antigen-binding antibody fragment that specifically binds to stem cell factor isoform b relative to stem cell factor isoform a. 2. The anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 wherein the antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment specifically binds to a protein comprising an amino acid sequence provided by SEQ ID NO: 4 or antibody-binding fragment thereof. 3. The anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment is a fragment of a monoclonal antibody. 4. The anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 wherein the antibody is a polyclonal antibody. 5. The anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 wherein the antibody is a humanized antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment is a fragment of a humanized antibody. 6. The anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 wherein the antibody or antigen-binding antibody fragment is a Fab, a Fab′, a F(ab′), a Fv fragment, a scFv fragment, or a linear antibody. 7. A composition comprising the anti-stem cell factor antibody or the antigen-binding antibody fragment of claim 1 . 8. The composition of claim 7 further comprising a stem cell factor isoform b polypeptide. 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein the antibody or antigen-binding antibody fragment is bound to the stem cell factor isoform b polypeptide. 10. The composition of claim 7 comprising a physiologically appropriate solution for administration to a subject. 11. The composition of claim 10 formulated for administration into an airway of a subject.
