A flow separation system for separating multicomponent fluids into components having different buoyancies. The system can deaerate fluids, and segregate solid particles into a channel for removal or real time particle analysis. The system can have, positioned axially within a housing, a cup shaped first member having an axial passageway and a concave inner surface, a second member with a surface that forms a gap with the first member, the gap directing the flow into at least one helical channel. The flow exits the helical channel into a separation chamber positioned between the second member and a third member and separates into spinning heavier flow portion and a more buoyant portion that is driven toward the central axis. The third member has central fluid passageway that collects the higher buoyancy fluid and least one other fluid passageway for carrying lower buoyancy fluid, with an inlet positioned radially outward of the central fluid passageway.

What is claimed as new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent of the United States is: 1. A system for separating a multicomponent fluid into two or more flow channels, each containing components with different buoyancy, comprising: a housing having a fluid inlet at a first end and at least two outlets; a first member configured to fit within the housing at the first end of the housing and having a passageway from the inlet through the member, the first member having a concave inner surface; a second member having a convex surface at one end that fits into the concave inner surface, the second member having at least one helical channel in an outer cylindrical surface extending from the convex surface to an opposite end of the second member; and a third member having a central fluid passageway for carrying higher buoyancy fluid and extending through the member along a central axis, and at least one other fluid passageway for carrying lower buoyancy fluid with an inlet positioned radially outward of the inlet of the central fluid passageway; the first member, the second member, and the third member configured to fit within the housing and aligned along a central longitudinal axis. 2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the housing has a cylindrical inner surface and the first member, the second member, and the third member have outer cylindrical surfaces that fit within the housing. 3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the housing has an inner cylindrical surface with an approximately constant cross section. 4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the second member and the third member are located at a predetermined distance from each other, with the faces of the second member and the third member and the inner wall of the housing defining a separation chamber. 5. The system according to claim 4 , wherein in operation, a fluid exiting the helical channels of the second member separate into a heavier flow portion moving in a spiral flow path near the inner wall of the housing and a more buoyant flow portion that is drawn toward the central axis of the separation chamber. 6. The system according to claim 4 , wherein the central passageway of the third member has an opening at an end that faces the second member, the opening being spaced apart at a predetermined distance from an outlet end of the second member, wherein in operation, a more buoyant flow portion of the fluid in the separation chamber enters the opening. 7. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the opening is tapered outward to collect the higher buoyancy flow portion while allowing the less buoyant flow portion to bypass the tapered opening and enter the inlet of the other fluid passageway. 8. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the inlet of the at least one other fluid passageway in the third member is located radially outward of and behind the tapered opening of the central passageway. 9. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the channel in the second member and at least one other fluid passageway in the third member turn in the same direction. 10. The system according to claim 4 , wherein the at least one other fluid passageway in the third member has a spiral shape and has an outlet that aligns with an opening in the cylindrical wall of the housing. 11. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the second member is prevented from spinning by mating pin and groove fittings on the second member and the inner wall of the housing. 12. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the third member is attached to the housing at the outlet end of the housing, thus keeping the third member at the predetermined distance from the second member and preventing the third member from spinning under fluid flow. 13. The system according to claim 12 , wherein the concave and convex surfaces of the first and second members are conical. 14. The system according to claim 1 , wherein a gap formed between the concave and convex surfaces of the first and second members has a funnel shape with the inlet at a first end along the central axis and an outlet at the second end in an annulus shape, wherein in operation, the concave and convex surfaces direct the fluid flow into the helical channels formed in the second member. 15. The system according to claim 14 , wherein the concave and convex surfaces of the first and second members have equal vertex angles. 16. The system according to claim 1 , in combination with a real time, on-line, fluid analysis module, wherein in operation, the lower buoyancy fluid is transmitted from an outlet in the third member into a flow channel in the fluid analysis module. 17. The system according to claim 16 , wherein the fluid analysis module is an online particle detector. 18. The system according to claim 16 , wherein the fluid analysis module is an online optical particle monitor, and wherein the size and distribution of the particles are determined by optically illuminating the particles as the fluid passes a transparent viewing window. 19. The system according to claim 16 , wherein the lower buoyancy fluid and the higher buoyancy fluid are recombined after the lower buoyancy fluid has passed through the fluid analysis module. 20. The system according to claim 1 , in combination with a particle removal module, and wherein in operation, the lower buoyancy fluid is transmitted from the at least one other fluid passageway in the third member to a particle removal module, particles are removed from the lower buoyancy fluid, and the remaining fluid is recombined with the higher buoyancy fluid in a fluid reservoir. 21. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first member and the second member form a single unitary element either formed integrally with each other or formed separately and subsequently joined together. 22. A method for separating a multicomponent fluid into two or more flow channels, each containing components with different buoyancy, the method comprising: introducing the multicomponent fluid into the fluid inlet of a housing having a fluid inlet at a first end and at least two outlets; subsequently passing the fluid into a passageway in a first member configured to fit within the housing at the first end of the housing and having the passageway from the inlet through the member, the first member having a concave inner surface; passing the fluid from the passageway through a cavity formed between the concave inner surface of the first member and a convex surface at one end of a second member that fits into the concave inner surface; passing the fluid from the cavity into at least one helical channel formed in an outer cylindrical surface of the second member and extending from the convex surface to an opposite end of the second member; and subsequently passing different buoyancy portions of the fluid into different fluid passageways of a third member including a central fluid passageway for carrying higher buoyancy fluid and extending through the member along a central axis, and at least one other fluid passageway for carrying lower buoyancy fluid with an inlet positioned radially outward of the inlet of the central fluid passageway, wherein the first member, the second member, and the third member fit within the housing and are aligned along a central longitudinal axis. 23. The method according to claim 22 , wherein the housing has a cylindrical inner surface and the first member, the second member, and the third member have outer cylin
