The present invention relates to substituted xanthines of general formula wherein R 1 to R 3 are as defined herein, the tautomers, the stereoisomers, the mixtures, the prodrugs thereof and the salts thereof which have valuable pharmacological properties, particularly an inhibiting effect on the activity of the enzyme dipeptidylpeptidase-IV (DPP-IV).

What is claimed is: 1. 1-[([1,5]naphthyridin-2-yl)methyl]-3-methyl-7-(2-butyn-l-yl)-8-((R)-3-amino-piperidin-1-yl)-xanthine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2. The pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound of claim 1 . 3. The free-base form of the compound of claim 1 . 4. A pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound of claim 1 , or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
