An application activation method includes interfacing a vehicle computing system with a remote device using an interface protocol. The method also includes sending a query from the vehicle computing system to the remote device to determine applications and/or services available on the remote device that are capable of interaction with the vehicle computing system. Once the applications have been determined, the method includes selecting, at the vehicle computing system, an application or service from the determined available applications and/or services for interaction. The method also includes sending an instruction from the vehicle computing system to an agent on the remote device, the instruction including an indication that the selected application or service is to be activated. Finally, the method includes receiving confirmation, at the vehicle computing system, that the application or service has been activated.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: a vehicle-processor configured to: detect environmental conditions corresponding to a plurality of possible triggering conditions associable with applications on a mobile device in communication with the vehicle-processor; and upon detection of a triggering condition associated with at least one application, instruct launch of the application on the mobile device. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a vehicle location. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a vehicle state. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a combination of a vehicle state and a vehicle location. 5. A computer-implemented method comprising: detecting, via a vehicle computing system, environmental conditions corresponding to a plurality of possible triggering conditions associable with applications on a mobile device in communication with the vehicle computing system; and upon detection of a triggering condition associated with at least one application, instructing launch of the application on the mobile device, using the vehicle computing system. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a vehicle location. 7. The method of claim 5 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a vehicle state. 8. The method of claim 5 , wherein a triggering condition is related to a combination of a vehicle state and a vehicle location. 9. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, storing instructions that, when executed by a vehicle-processor, cause the vehicle-processor to perform a method comprising: detecting a low-fuel condition corresponding to a low-fuel triggering condition associated with a refueling assistance application on a mobile device; and upon detection of the low-fuel condition corresponding to the low-fuel triggering condition associated with the refueling assistance application, instructing launch of the refueling assistance application on the mobile device.
